SO I left the car at work and came back today.
Pull out the fuel pump and gave it a good shake and now it starts.

** New fuel pump is on the cards **

Hey John, had the same problem last year - if you haven't already, while you're at check the fuel pump in-tank wiring harness for 'black wire': viewtopic.php?f=55&t=46425

Thanks Paul, I managed to fix my car with your method!

It was the intank wiring harnes as it was starting to discolor.
:)

Cheers

Great to hear John - hopefully saved you some time. The plastic electrical insulator around the top of the fuel pump wiring harness on the one in my thread had deteriorated so badly that the positive & negative electrical connectors inside were almost touching. However, the black coating on the metal post & the metal connector had built up to the point where it became insulated, although it was intermittent about a month or so prior to that.

I am about to give mine a quick clean and then it's off to Bendigo (35mins) to fill the other seat with a beautiful girl followed by a spirited drive to somewhere a hundred klms away for lunch :) , all under clear spring skies.
Best.
Greg.

Finally got around to installing my new radiator, then took it for a test drive. It's been about a week since I've dríven it and in the meantime I have been driving an old Holden Rodeo. Boy is there a difference in the driving dynamics between the two :D

I know what you mean by that, driving a Kia pregio van all week and then hoping into the mx5 is mind blowing!

Got the gearbox out to change the clutch. Not as hard as I thought, extension bars and flexi joints required.

Heaps of oil inside. Replacing all seals.

Will see how hard to put back tomorrow.
