Im flat out getting this silly GT28 SE out of my shed, coming up really seriously nice, Ive outdone myself I reckon.

Not meaning to hassle, just wondering if it had fallen into the too hard or maybe later basket.
T28 SE looks very tasty, I dare say in the next year or so I might be pestering you to do some similar.
It looks like the turbo is positioned a bit closer to the nose end of the engine bay. Is this so you get a smoother down pipe angle??

Hi Dann,
Apologies for just getting onto this and I am really enjoying it. I relation to Lokie's message, I know a former welder who is very fortunate that his dog sees better than him, much better! GET A MASK, and congrats again on the great work.
Best.
Greg.
P.S. Sorry for sounding like the grumpy uncle.

Standard NitroDann Photo Updates.
Mating a the custom divorced gases downpipe to the stock SE exhaust

The rest of various shots of intercooler plumbing and intake plumbing, and welding.

Im pretty jealous of the owner to be honest, SE or not.
He has put a nice pillar pod on it for guages, has E Boost2, wideband, adaptronic PnP, intercooler and exhaust upgrades and like I said, Im really ecstatic as to how well this turbo setup has come out.
If only the SE came like this, Might be a whole se worth of turbo gear coming up for sale soon lol. (just kidding, everything has been whored off to mates for silly little side projects, such as a 3cyl charade turbo setup)

Love the turbo location, manifold and that dump pipe, it should show a great improvement over oem.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

The turbo is in the exact stock location. It just appears to be further forward because its much larger than stock haha.
The car has the aircon removed so it could have been much lower and further forward, but alas.
This location is oem, so it will be easier to pass it legally, or as a midly modified oem turbo car on the odd 'random' highway patrol inspection. Of course it also allows the stock exhaust to fit with almost no modifications, just a quick cut and shut.

Thanks Dave, it should make pretty massive area under the curve, have stock driveability, and close to double the power, all with 100% OEM reliability.
Hes already talking about changing the rods and pushing 300rwhp, but I only just had the engine out so no!

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Just an update that my exhaust sytem is still going fine. It seems to have mellowed out a bit and the bit of drone in the 2-3000RPM range has really died down. I guess exhaust systems run in?
I suspect I will need to look at replacing the tips sooner rather than later. They are rolled from a flat piece so have a welded seam on them and they always have a bit of rust sitting in the seam. This is no fault of Danns as I supplied the tips myself.

I can recommend an exhaust shop on Newcastle st near Charles St. One of Terry Lim's mates.

ƒü¢k me those cooler pipes are long.. was there no way to make them shorter/go through a better route ?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Dann, I'd like to upgrade my SE's turbo later this year but want something like the FM setup below rather than the setup you've created (which is very impressive):

The reason for this is that I want to duct air from my passenger-side foglight entry into my airbox . Currently the OEM intercooler inlet pipe takes up this space (ie. the intercooler pipe is in the way). I'd like to clock the turbo output straight down and duct to the intercooler like the FM setup above (charlie_91 did something very similar to this). I'm looking at a GT2560R and it looks like FM has moved the wastegate from its standard location to achieve this re-clocking. This would clean up the engine bay too. Any thoughts on the achievability of this setup? (and yes, I'm well aware that real-estate in the SE is extremely limited - I still have A/C but do have the NoPro washer bottle rather than the OEM washer bottle so there's a little bit more room than OEM).
FM charges US$2,600 for their Mazdaspeed FMII conversion kit and undoubtedly their S&H will be north of US$500 so I'm looking at alternatives before throwing my cash at them.
I realise that BEGi is also an option but I just cannot trust their quality - sending back a dodgy manifold for re-work is NOT an option.
Savington's turbo kit looks to be ideal but he's indicated that he will only sell complete kits (+US$6,000, including an ECU - which I don't need since I already have an Adaptronic e440).

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
See the image below to understand why the cooler pipes are this way, this engine bay is stock SE, which this car used to be.

Hence cooler pipe routing,
Also, I bet it spools earlier and nicer than any other SE in oz regardless of length. If you spend 30 seconds thinking how fast 250 cubic feet of air a minute travels through a 2m piece of 2 inch pipe you would see that it doesnt make any real world difference.
It makes 5psi by 2500rpm, tuned at 6 psi tonight.
The oil return hose used is the stock SE rubber hose with modified S15 parts bolted to the turbo.
The original rubber hose split when it the clamps were tightened, so the night was stopped short by an oil leak.
No fire or anything, but I saw the leak, so stopped for the night.
Starts great, pulls fantastic.
Spools from 2000rpm, doesnt 'come on' at all.
And at 6psi makes more power than the full mania upgraded SE it used to be ever did. Spins first, second and halfway through third, and the delivery is just silky smooth and beautiful all the way to the limiter.
I sure am hoping that this is the car that will stop all of the 'buy an SE, dont turbo an n/a car' debate.
Assuming it stays leak free and peter keeps the boost below 250rwhp this is so far proving everything Ive ever argued for aftermarket turbo vs stock turbo.
Very optimistic.
I can build whatever you want, hit me with a PM when the time comes.
When you see this car is real life when all the wires are tucked and heatshrinked etc you will see just how tidy this setup is.

Really, really stoked with this. Looks awesome, sounds awesome. This is the only shot I have at the moment. More/better photos to come.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
i know its the same as the stock piping but if u went to all the trouble of getting a custom manifold wouldnt u do it so you worked out a better more efficient path for the cooler piping ?
