Re: SAFETY ALERT: Filling portable containers with petrol
I usually have a 10 litres plastic 'can' I take with me. I always fill it outside of the car and tie it down in the boot so it can not move easily. Makes me nervous still.
Using a proper nozzle that screws on to your jerry can makes it safer to as they have a bit that lets air out with the fuel glugging and spilling everywhere.
Remember it is the vapour on fuel that burns and not the liquid itself. The vapour spreads a long way and fast and can leave you and your mates and the cars either side of you in the paddock sitting in a fuel air bomb without you knowing it. Well worth taking note of what is going on around you before sloshing fuel about the place.

Re: SAFETY ALERT: Filling portable containers with petrol
The Cams document makes sense. I used to fly light aircraft and was taught to always connect an earthing strap between the tanks and nozzle before opening them for refueling
With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

Very old advice. I like the bit where it says you should wear clothes. Anyone not wear clothes at the petrol station?

....and ground the tanker and ground the aircraft and make sure the nozzle is touching the tank just to be sure.

...oh and, I forgot, ground the tanker to the aircraft.
