Well heres this evenings progress.

The oil pressure sender is out ( bunnings sells 24mm sockets if your reading this and thinking about doing it BUY one its the only way short of pulling the intake manifold or starter motor etc etc

Air con system is out . Let me know if you want any bits or its going in the bin. Although it was non functioning for atleast 3 years.

Radiator is out so i could get to the aircon core. I figure may as well leave it out till after the intercooler is in. If budget allows before its complete ill probably get a new one.

Now the fun bits.

Oil supply is in on the t piece (monumental prick of a job ) sender bolt started to strip a little bit so i hope its tight enough hard to tell because you cant see it.
Same as the braided line from the t piece. I got it finger tight then about half a turn on a spanner before i couldnt move it any further. Ill find out when i turn it over and check for leaks i guess

Water supply and drain are in and tightened down.

Down pipe is fitted but not tightened down.

Turbo and manifold are in but not tightened down.
Im a bit stuck now how ever as it doesnt look like the air intake will fit on the turbo with the power steering in place. The obvious solution would be to remove the power steering. However i do like my ps and would prefer to keep it.

Im also a little concerned about the clearance from the down pipe to the heater hoses

Pics from end of evening and of clearance between turbo and ps

Thanks i might end up taking you up on it.

Im going to pull the ps pump to the front tomorrow bolt the exhaust manifold up then put the intake on and then try to work the ps back into place.

Fingers crossed

Well tonight there was some progress.
Manifold and turbo are in and header bolts are on. Still need to be tightened down
Down pipe is in and tightened to manifold i actually managed to do this out of the car and wiggle the whole assembly into place then hook it up the the cat.

Huge success. Took ps pump out. Installed intake to turbo and then re installed ps pump with out to much drama.

Also shortened a heater hose slightly and got better clearance although i still want to get some heat wrap for it

Pipes from intercooler to intake manifold are in. Silicon hose was to big or intake manifold. But it hose clamped down ok. Well see if it leaks

Just trying to figure out wtf to bolt the avo intercooler to now as theres no brackets in the kit and the only to possible holes already have bolts in them and mounting to these points is obstructed by power steering lines and the horns.

Not too worried about the horns as id like to replace them with something more gutsy any way.

Rang up mania today for a quote on tuning. And took advantage of their deal they have is month if you buy the adaptronic theyll dyno it for $300.

Also im going to get them to install the injectors for me. Its meant to be pretty straight forward. But the consequences of a fuel leak out way the saving of a hundred bucks or so.

Im also going to get them to give all my work the once over for me after ive finished which might cost me an hour or two of labour but should be well worth the money if ive over looked anything.

Well it pretty much all in now. Had to take a break last night due to other things in life.... Wine and women... It cant all be fast cars

Well tonight there was good progress

Had to relocate the ps cooler up a bit to get the intercooler in.
Also the mounts on the intercooler were at different heights. Not sure why or if they are supposed to be.

Radiators back in and plumbed back up.

Intercooler piping is all in and tightened down.

Only big things left are connecting the bov and tightening down the exhaust manifold ( waiting on an angle grinder to shave down a spanner. )

Then begins the process of chasing leaks etc over the weekend

Well its in and it works.

Kind of.

When i turned it over there was squealling from the belts so down to repco to buy a new alternator belt and the powersteering belt.

Alternator belt was easy enough. Pwrsteering belt on the other hand well..... I was right about the clearance issue with the turbo. As i was tensioning the belt its gone up against the inake and bent the ps pipe out of the pump and sheared the bolt

So ill be needing a new one of them.

Just need to put the injectors in now i had a crack at it but couldnt get the top of the intake chamber off

Well dropped the car upto mania today to get tuned.

Also was planning to get the powersteering pump replaced dueto my clumsyness.

As it turns out theres a bit in the avo kit to re route the powersteering ...... Chalk it upto experience i guess..... However another good thing about sending your car to people that know exactly what they're doing. Rather than sell me a 2nd hand pump. They pointed out the error of my ways and will be putting the bit in saving me $60 or so.

Other than that so far the only error in my install that was apparent is that you're sposed to cut 5mm or so off the centre manifold stud to get the header to seat flush. Causing a bit of an exhaust leak. As i was following the fm instructions for a different manifold i obviously missed this.
Mania have no problem fixing this but obviously its something that had i known it would've been easy enough to fix during the install.

Basically the only mistakes i made installing it thus far seem simple enough and would've been easily avoided if there were some instructions with the kit. Ahhh well next time ill know better

Anyway i should get it back from mania friday-ish. Until then im like a kid 3 days before christmas :D

Oh also ill throw this picture in. Its my nephew today in one of manias race cars....... The beginning of the end id say..... Ill have to get him a go kart in a few years :

well its back from mania.

and it dynoed at 134kw atw on 5psi from memory.

ive got it currently only at 5psi due to not having a boost controller so once install one of them in i can up the boost a bit.

there's still a few small little niggles still runs very rich and theres the occasional lurch on extremely light throttle.

still it'll break traction in a straight line in 3rd in the wet. even at only 130kw the car demands a lot more attention be paid to driving
cant wait to get out today and take it for a bit more of a run in the dry

updated. Break down of costs so far

$3520 turbo kit from avo
$180+$20 shipping 430cc rx8 injectors from eBay
$1630 adaptronic and wide band O2 sensor from mania ( on sale this month saving $150 or so on usual )
$300 or so for some fresh tools, a compressor and air ratchet ( figure it'll make life easier )
$50 for case of beer while installing it
$300 for tuning at mania after I cock up the tuning

$150 repco coolant oil, filters
$50 bunnings for a few tools and odd size sockets
$300 more to replace tools when garage was broken into
$mates rate replacement 02 sensor
$482.00 for mania to redo sh*t id cocked up, ps steering pump and exhaust manifold. and do a few general service items plugs leads oil

so running total at around the $7000 mark and car isnt running yet

still to buy.
electronic boost controller $120.00
upgraded radiator $140.00
actually get the car to start and drive $ your guess is as good as mine
