The Holden Sporting Car Club will be holding a Come'n'try Motorkhana at Willowbank on 19th August. It is in couple of bitumen car parks around the back of the drag strip.
This is really fun, low cost and safe motorsport, and MX5s seem just made for it, with low weight, excellent visibility and ability to handbrake turn. And let's face it: how often do you get to do two dozen handbrake turns in an afternoon? This is a very different experience to a track day. There seem to be three or four regular MX5 punters.
You can take it seriously if you want, but more likely you will have a good laugh as you disappear into a cloud of your own smoke and realize you have WD'ed. AGAIN! WD= wrong direction btw
The HSCCQ are a friendly bunch, and it is quite family friendly. Last time I was there they were running two courses simultaneously so the action was fairly continuous.
You can enter at the HSCCQ website or on the day. You do need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated club such as MX5CCQ and need a CAMS license (a $25 30 day license can be purchased on the day if you need). A helmet is required if you are driving an open top car.

Yes. I saw Mark doing his threshhold braking and thought "I really should learn how to do that".

Re: Come'n'try Motorkhana Willowbank 19th August
WOW! A big turnout at Willowbank today. 47 entries, lots of first timers and no less than SEVEN fives. The HSCCQ ran 12 courses in four parks, including a tuition session for first timers. I think I should have gone to that
Today I learnt it pays to bring our good tyres, not those old, hard, bald, slippery things you don't care if you trash. I swapped my rear R1Rs for said rubbish and my driving was hopeless. The rear was so slippery and unstable, and when it went it really went, even if I wasn't giving it a bootfull. So next time it's proper tyres for me.
Anyways, I reckon everyone had a good time today. Lots to do, lots to see, people to talk to. A great way to be outsde on a perfect winter's day.
I'll try and attach some pics I took. With apologies to Lepherd Jnr and Unkown, who's names I did not get. Identify yourself if you wish.
Next Motorkhana is 2nd September which is a warm-up/practice for officials and competitors, in preparation for the Australian Championship event on 13th & 14th October. Details here: http://www.hsccq.com/upcoming-events/amc-practice-for-drivers-and-officials/

And lastly, Jeremy. He did some fantastic power slides in the Try Angles.
These are today's courses. Ignore my scribbled down times. They sucked.
