To be fair, your example needs engineering also.
The SE brakes are nb8b brakes. If you want to argue brakes and 6 speed, 6 speed is 1000 and can be put in with your clutch, and brakes are 500 odd.
Lets be honest, rims on an SE dont count, they are upgraded to non SE rims all the time, cos stock NB wheels are better.
The bodykit is PURELY subjective.
The seats are subjective 100%.
And whats a 6 stacker? (

)
The one must have item for an SE is the one thing thats argued makes an aftermarket turbo car not a possibility.
ECU.
Stock ecu SEs with any mods drive like sh*t.
No if buts or maybe's.
The other thing is that you are comparing to a used car, thats been modified to modifying a car yourself, which everyone knows is far more expensive.
An already well built, engineered NA/NB turbo car can be bought from 12000, leaving 4000 for mods or (and to counter this argument) 'sorting it out'.
Options are..Buy a used stock SE. $16,000.
120rwhp, reliable, poor power curve, and no more fun than a 10k NB.
Buy a modified SE. 18,000.
180rwhp, illegal and needs engineering wont pass on stock ecu, requires at least a new ECU just to drive nice, poor power curve.
Buy a used NB8a and fit quality equipment (choice of coilover brand/rates, choice of swaybars, choice of clutch, choice of turbo size).
230rwhp, illegal, needs engineering but can pass due to proper ecu, handles, goes, stops, great torque curve and driveability.
Buy the above car already built, 14,000.
As above but like an SE, will be modified to suit someone elses taste.
