CIG ceramic coating - manifold, turbine housing, dump

Hi guys,

I am looking at getting my manifold, dump pipe and turbine housing ceramic coated. The only reason i am doing this is to try and keep the under bonnet temps down with the turbo conversion.

I was looking at using CIC in Welshpool.

Have heard some mixed reports but they seem to be the main place that does it here in Perth. I would be happy to ship this if someone else around the country does a much better job?

CIC gave me a estimate over the phone of ~$220 for the manifold, ~$150 for the turbine housing and ~$70/80 for the dump. Does this seem a fair price for this type of service? They are apparenly going to do a black finish which has 1 coat inside and 2 coats on the outside.

Anyone had this done? Anyone used CIC? Any thoughts?

I was quoted 420/440 for a full na Exhuast manifold in Brisbane. Two places were within 20 of each other

hi Dale

I have had my old turbo manifold,housing and dump pipe done by that place about 3 years ago.
it cost me around that much to get it done. it was good but for what it is and how much it is
i would use that VHT FlameProof coating paint and get someone to do the oven heating cycles.

i am using it on my dump pipe at the moment and its holding up fine.
Dad is using it on his kit car aswell its been on there for about a year and its fine too.

and you can touch it when the car has been running too!

im not saying not to get it done but just think ''is it worth all the money''

also do you have a heat shield? i made one from ACL heat shield stuff it worked really good and made my engine bay look neat and keeped the heat down.

That paint seems pretty good, I wonder what it would be like head to head against the CIC coatings.

Off the Vehicle
•Paint must be completely dry before curing
•Heat to 250°F (121°C) for 30 minutes
•Cool for 30 minutes
•Heat to 400°F (204°C) for 30 minutes
•Cool for 30 minutes
•Heat to 650°F (343°C ) for 30 minutes


My oven would be fine for all but the last 30 minutes at 343ish degrees. Max my oven goes on the thermostat is 260ish.

The heatsheild you made looks awesome, dont feel like making another one do you :)

the heat sheild was easy if you need a hand just ask.

it would be good to test the paint V coating but would take time and money.

the next time my turbo / manifold comes off im going to paint it with the paint before i go and spent 500 bucks to pretty much do the same job.

but thats just my opinion.

bought myself a can of the VHT flameproof paint, thought it was worth a try!
I notice there is a primer, any idea if this something that is required?

I will take you up on that hand with the heat sheild though.
What material did you use and where did you get it from?

I think it would be best to paint it with the primer that they require
but again i didnt use it and mine is fine . :lol:

Just make sure you clean the manifold really well first!

the heat shield is called ACL heat shield and i brought it from super cheap and iv seen it in other auto stores also .

it was about $50 for the GTR sheet.

The paint will only provide protection, the coatings provide some level or thermal barrier.

The prices quoted seem fairly ballpark.
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

All I want is some type of thermal barrier.

I have decided to go with the VHT Ceramic/Silicone paint and the ACL heat shield.
Will do what i need it to and save me $400.
