I think that Jason will give your car priority over mine as I do not need mine till 1 August. It will be a bad day for Jason if both cars are in for urgent work at the same time :)

Unfortunately because this manifold flows so much more we had to drop timing back 4* to make it as safe as possible. So no where near the same power but oh we'll will interesting to see how it goes
What sort of power is your car making with that manifold?

Update:

So sunday we were trying to get my car sorted ready for the track day on monday. We got it all running and as i went to test drive it the car felt a lot quick. Looked at the ecu on the laptop and i was now making 19psi to my previous 15 psi. So big jump there.. We brought down the boost and knock back timing 4* just to be safe. WE were gonna get the tune re done during the week anyway so it was only temporary.

Next morning i went out to Lakeside with the mx5 club the the afternoon session only to have my exhaust fall off the hangers twice lol.. FUUUUU. When i got there i quickly zip tied the fuckers together so they wouldnt slip off :D.

We were split into 3 groups and by 12.30 or so we were ready to get racing. There was something weird about my car and i couldnt put my finger on it. When i got on boost it would like sound like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSH lol and it would seem like it would stop pulling as hard (i suspect the bov was leaking?). Never did this before the new manfiold. I didnt think much of it and proceded to drive out with group 1 and get on with it.. At the end of first hot lap i hear a POP!!! and suddenly no boost :( drove all the way around to get back to the pits and looked to see what i had assumed had happen was true. Cooler pipe blew off.

I put it all back together and clamped it down tight to make sure it wasnt coming out (yes i do have nipples welded to the end of the pipe :P) Seemed more or less ok so went out that next session. Familiar story, 2-3 lap in and POP!!. I did it again lol. Drove back in and grabbed some pliers to try and flare out the pipe to give it a better chance at sealing. Missed the 3rd session so waited it out for the 4th. Drove out, did warm up and managed to get 3 or 4 laps in :D woooohoooo lol At one point in the session i was stoked cos it hadnt blown off then 2 seconds later .. POP!!!

Incar vid from that session.

After that i tried to get it sealing again but the clamp was rooted so i just left it and began packing up. Sorta disappointed with the car and just having weird problems come up but oh well.. thats cars for u. Happy i managed to drive it home, N/A but still happy haha :P So this week im getting it sorted, re tuned, new bov and hopefully no issues for the track day on sunday :D

Cannot wait for this one. All my mates are racing and we are in the same group so should be sick.

Some pics.

You need a ridge/bead all the way around the pipe. Plus allow a little more silicone pipe overhang.

It was great to see you and Andrew there, a few [few?] dramas before things kicked off but then that's life!!

Well done on the 1:04.1 considering the problems you were having and all the best for Sunday

If you weld a little spot on to the top of the top hanger, and the bottom of the bottom hanger, that will stop the exhaust falling off. The cable ties will break pretty soon (I know from experience).

Otherwise, best of luck next weekend

I was having a similar issue with pipes popping off and it was my bypass/blow off valve. Check it's releasing properly. I haven't had a single issue since I replaced mine.

My exhaust hangers have more of a mushroom head on the rods to stop them popping off the runners.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I know how charlie hates me coming in and mentioning any work Ive ever done...

But if it helps I use 12mm rod for exhaust hangers not the usual 8 or 10mm, and I dont usually put any bead on the hangers.

The increased size means that the exhaust stays in place just fine with friction, and you can move the exhaust placement by moving the rod inside the rubber hanger. Although it takes some force to do so. You have to move each hanger individually, its impossible to move it by simply grabbing the tailpipe and yanking on it. Ive found this to be 100% reliable, but it does take some wrist/hand strength to fit and remove.

could also just chuck some tiny worm drive hose clamps on there for the time being.

That looks like quite a big "gap" that the silicone hose is joining so it has a lot of potential for "ballooning" - your hose is obviously swelling up under the added pressure and dragging the clamp off the pipe. You want to minimise these "gaps" as much as possible so that the hose has almost no ability to "balloon".

Try a longer hose (just buy a 1M length and cut it down) and do one of the following:

1. Add worm clamps about 10 mm apart along the length of the silicone hose to prevent it flexing too much - hack solution.

2. Insert a metal pipe the same diameter as the intercooler pipe, but short enough to allow the ends of the silicone hose to fit at either end with a worm clamp, into the middle of the silicone hose and use a worm clamp in the centre to hold it in place.
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!
