Low fuel indicator?

Hi Guys,

I just want to gather some information here, currently my fuel gauge is showing im on below "E" however I can't seems to see there is a low fuel indicator light???

I own a 1992 MX5

Low fuel light was on cars post 2002 I think? (somewhere around there, might have been 2000, or 2004)

NA's don't have a low fuel light. My '99 and '02 NB's didn't have one either... Not sure for NC's.

NA's don't have em, I found out the hard way

usually when it hits E there is around 5 litres by my estimate, based on a 45 L tank

thanks guys,

im also wondering on average how far you can go for a full tank of petrol? im getting about 430km out of just pure city drive.

That figure for NA6 city driving is in the ballpark. As you can imagine it varies driver to driver, & NA6 to NA6. Worth noting that the fuel pump is in tank, & it's body sits 3/4 or so down in the tank with the sock filter below it. So if you frequently run low fuel levels the pump body is not covered by fuel. Some on Miata.net attribute 'black wire' to this.

But in answer to your initial question, assuming fuel gauge is indicating correctly, a couple of mm passed 'E' leaves about 5 litres, although not all of that might be accessable.

Yes they do and it does work well. Own Man is a Pita, not very clear, but here is a hint, it's above the fuel gauge. :shock:

Well mine definately didn't, but perhaps being an SP it missed the cut in '02 as some of them were built in 2001. They wouldn't have started fitting low fuel lights on the 1st Jan 2002.... :wink:

on average the depth of the lake is 3 feet but you can drown in the middle.

I find both my MX5's have a fuel gauge, and when they get to around 1/4 full I ADD fuel!! The NB i believe [correct me if I am wrong please] has a 48 litre tank and the NA has a 44 litre tank - I work both on 7.5 litres/100km so always gives plenty of leeway

Both my Corollas have fuel warning lights which come on when 10 litres left in the tank - both are very very accurate with that

Yes, it's a gauge that goes from F down to E. When it's on or near E, that's when you should put more fuel in.

My NB8a has a low fuel light. However I'm not certain if it was an aftermarket fitting by the previous owner.

Haven't tried a full tank for city driving yet but on the highway it is about 600km to 45Ls of fuel usage. I usually fueled up for weekend club runs covering on average 300km for Sunday and will continue using the same tank for commuting to work for another five days before refueling. The total distance would be roughly 450k to 35Ls. It works out to be 7.5L per 100k.
