Wheel locking nut. HELP!!

Well i finally got a chance to remove those bloody 18" wheels only to be screwed over by what appears to be a locking nut.




I tried a 19" socket hammered over it but it just ended up spinning on it.
Could try a 18" but thought maybe someone has a better idea or even the damn tool to remove it.

GRRRRRRR,
I have sold the damn wheels, now i can not get them off!!

Hey Mark,

I took another car I owned to a tyre place. I don't know how they got the lock nuts off but they did, and pretty quick as well. I just had a quick search on google. Seems that people have tried hammering a sock in like you. One I read used super glue to hold the socket to the wheel nut.

I wonder if a one size fits all socket would work, like this.

These guys have a kit that claims to remove any lock nut. I believe it's true but it does take some skill and patience. If the nut is a good one, you can easily damage the wheel, which is not what you want. Sorry!! One trick I heard was to over tighten the other nuts to hopefully make it easier to remove the lock nut.

I think i'd find an old socket that just fits or can be hammered over and perhaps put some rag/rubber into the socket and hammer it over so it's nice and tight then use an air ratchet or rattle gun to try and get enough grip to start it spinning.

That looks like the lock nut tempe tyres supplies with their wheels..I think I have one but mines a nc.

Might be a good idea to try tempe tyres though.

Yeah i personally would be happy to see the wheels burn.
But, i am would prefer to not damage them as i have a guy giving me a sweet $500 for them.

I have BOB JANE just around the corner from me.
Maybe i can try them.
Those tyre places worry em because they always seem to mess up the rims.

Mr Dweezle, how much does locknut stick head over hub of wheel? Maybe drill pilot hole in top of nut. You need leverage thing to cause nut to move. And very strong metal bar to go through hole. If torques applied to nut to high, maybe difficult to remove, require specialist.

Principle is to give locking for wrnech, like coilover adjuster but smaller. Then long lever bar on end to supply torque. Not ok with socket unless you can make a cast.

Can you remove hub? Give buyer wheel with hub attached. No longer your problem !

It unfortunately does not stick out.

MitchF1 kindly lent me wheel lock removal kit.
It is meant for OEM style wheel nuts but I had High hopes.

It didn't work.

Not quite the right size.

He informed me off a Beaurepairs in st Leonards that got one off for him before.
So will try them tomorrow.

Last one I took off I drilled a hole in some plate then weld the plate to the nut. Hit the end of the plate with a hammer, wind off drill out and go again. Card boarding between wheel and welder will stop weld splatter marking the wheels.

It did not work, but i appreciate the help.

I ended up doing the "smash a socket on with a hammer trick".
I had tried that already but i decided to give it one last try.
This time with a 6 Point impact socket.

It worked.
So happy!!
