Wideband recommendations

Can anyone recommend a wideband O2 sensor? I'm also at a (what I consider) crucial point in time with it because I want to use the thing to tune my Megasquirt since setting up an eBoost Street.

I've just had my second Innovate LC-1 sensor die on me :roll:

despite having their little heatsink/shield on the second one. ($250 down the drain). Suffice to say - I'm not so keen on them anymore.

Hey Geoff,

I had an aussie made wideband setup in my last 5. Not the cheapest on the block, but I found their support and product quality to be great. I believe you can get a DIY kit.

The innovate just uses a bosch sensor for memory so replacements should be cheaper than that?

I had Zeitronix ZT-3 on my last car for road tuning. http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/Zt-3/Zt-3.shtml

Ordered it direct from the manufacturer, price was reasonable and postage was fast. Evo tuners tend to use these and they have a good track record for reliability so far as we know.

It's the only one i've used, but I will buy another when I upgrade the ECU.

I've always had good results with the Innovate stuff. I've got an LM-1 that I've had for years and is still working perfectly. Any WB sensor will die with extended use though - particularly if it sees contamination, water, etc. They are not a rugged device despite the hell-like conditions they work in.

I also recommend that any track car I tune has a permanent install wideband with dash-mount gauge. So far everyone has been happy with the (now very cheap) Innovate units - and they've saved some engines too.

I've decided to keep at it with the Innovate seeing as they use a generic sensor. I'll see if I can source the sensor itself (Bosch LSU4.2 5 wire), rather than buy another controller and sensor combo - but at the same time I'll further beef up the heatsink. That said, I don't see how my particular setup is special if it's heat that is killing the sensors - up until a few days ago it was only running 5psi, so it's not exactly a heat-producing monster.

If that fails, I'll undoubtedly go with one of the recommendations here.

I'm no turbo tuner but if your running an very rich / safe tune maybe you've got fuel still burning as it goes past the sensor.

Mine's been going fine for a few years but I'm not running boost. Is yours mounted correctly so it's pointed downhill?

You might need to get a bung welded in a bit further down, too. From memory the current location is right near the turbo outlet?

My bet is user error, wrong location, bad tune, air leak, not mounted at right angle etc.

Its an LSU4.2 sensor like 90% of late model OEM applications.

+1 If you've just swapped out your narrowband O2 sensor for a wideband O2 sensor then it's too close to the turbo and is simply burning out.

Here's a picture of the FM downpipe from the MSM. The Wideband O2 bungis half way down the pipe, just in front of the CAT (US cars have another sensor after the CAT that we don't have - on the right hand side of the picture above):
