4. Helmet – Full faced is the goal. If you have an open faced one this year will be the last year you can use it so .......

No, not by email, it will be under 'Motor Sport' on the MX5 Club of Queensland website - unfortunately I just tried to open it and no luck

All rules and regulations are posted on that site, the Club being the organiser. I have emailed both the Competition Secretary & JBT to try and have this clarified as a matter of urgency

I received an email from the Competition Secretary on 30 Sep 2011 which stated in part:

"...Next, some OHS stuff has come to me and whilst not law makes some sense. Things like open faced helmet in open top cars are deemed by almost all motor sports agency's as inappropriate. To this end the 2012 year will be the last year that these will be accepted...."

Not all current members may have received that email and certainly few, if any, non-members would have received it.

I just checked the club website, clicked on Motorsport and clicked on Competition Format. In the paragraph after paragraph #5 in the description of classes there is this:

"Roll bars are encouraged and this year in an open cockpit car you will need a full face helmet. As always we would strongly encourage suitable track attire appropriate to scooting around the track at the speeds we do, but the minimum standard is still the full neck to wrist cotton shirt. Full leg trousers (no shorts) and enclosed shoes. Whilst the club operates under the CAMS banner we will be racing under the AASA (Australian Auto Sport Alliance) so you will need a AASA licence. As in the past this can be purchased on the day from Queensland Raceways."

Confused :?: Contact the Competition Secretary by email on compsecmx5@miata.net.au or mobile 0410 415 873 for a definitive answer.

JBT

Thanks, I have seen a few running this year with 'open face' so I'm assuming permitted until the end of 2012

Just paid up for my first crack at Lakeside - I re-injured my left forearm/elbow and last weekend couldn't even grip the steering wheel so wasn't sure if I'd even be able to drive until today.

I plan on treating this as a learning exercise (ie. learn the track, learn to trust my brakes, learn not to brake so early, learn to treat Gina more like a track car and not like my pride and joy because she can take it).

All tips welcomed.

Had a look at Natsoft and I did ok at the last session: 26/44 with only three laps (before retiring).http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?21/05/2012.QR1.P1

I won't be going hard at all on Monday, just taking it easy with the new motor.

Zero00: I know, I just like to go out in my car and have fun. I've participated in track days with various groups since 2004. I think I was in group 1 last time but I don't think I'm fast enough to warrant it.
