Switch for PRHT NC

Postby 90VSP » Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:35 pm

For those of you who were at NATMEET you will remember the red NC with the hardtop problem. Well that was me and the saga continues. The incident happened on Friday April 6. It is still not fixed. The outcome:
One Mazda dealer wants $5300 to fit a whole new roof as the diagnosis was twisted hinges and according to them you have to replace the roof as you cannot buy parts.
NRMA Insurance sent me to their Mazda body specialist and after 4 weeks it was diagnosed (with the help of Mazda Qld technician) that it is a switch that sits just behind the driver's side seatbelt point. Apparently the hood had a slight misalignment as it came back up and had broken a small plastic switch.
Now for the climax of this story. According to Mazda Australia there is no part in this country and Mazda Japan do not make the part anymore. You cannot even buy the motor and switch unit. Outcome - you must purchase a whole new roof.
Whilst this is still in the hands of the insurance company and the body repairer I have asked for the part number hoping I could source one from somewhere around the world!!
The part number is NG206987X. If you could assist with any information it would be appreciated. I am also sourcing the part through the wrecker chain. I am going to post on miata.net and approach out sponsor MX5Plus.
The moral to this story if you have a PRHT DO NOT let anything fall down behind the seats into the space that the top retracts into.

Gmi
Thanks for the prompt post.
I will follow up on this and will let you know how I went. At least I can tell Mazda Australia that the part can be sourced.
Once again thanks
