jrt's NB8B

Postby jrt » Tue Jul 10, 2012 9:13 pm

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd introduce myself and my car. My name is Jarrod and around 2 months ago I bought a NB8B. I've previously owned a SW20 MR2 and more recently a Toyota Altezza.

I got bored with the Altezza and was looking for something a little more fun to drive. One of my friends has a NA6 and driving that roof off through the hills is probably why I bought my car haha

I was originally thinking of getting an NA but as I'd be daily driving the car decided to go with an NB as it's a bit newer and in my opinion, nicer inside. I ended up picking up a dead stock silver 2001 model with a black hardtop.

When I bought the car I had a few mods in mind so decided so start buying bits and pieces.
First one on the list was a roll bar. I ended up going with a Brown Davis bar. It's the NB version but interestingly it JUST fits with the hardtop. The very top corners actually make contact with some of the plastic inside the hardtop and have rubbed off a bit of the paint.

I ended up going overseas for a few weeks so no progress with the car. First week back, walking to my car after work one day to find this. Great! No note, nothing...
One of my dad's mates is a panel beater so hopefully it won't cost that much to fix.

Next things on the list were coilovers and wheels. I bought some BC's after being happy with them on my Altezza and ordered some 15x8 6UL's.

It was an awesome day when the wheels arrived!

I then had to wait a week until I got the opportunity to get some tyres and an alignment. I wanted to get a fixed back bucket style seat as I found I sat a bit too high in the stock seats, plus I'm not the biggest fan of leather. I made the mistake of looking at ebay one night before I went to sleep and bought myself a Sparco Ultra.

I now got myself into a bit of a predicament. All my tools are at my dad's place which happens to be about an hour away. I had 4 wheels and a seat which I wanted to fit on the weekend. I didn't think I could fit them all into the car.

Who say's MX5's are impractical? Please excuse the crappy iphone pics and the dog's black fluffy blanket in the boot haha

So ended up getting the wheels and tyres fitted. I went with Bridgestone RE002's in 205/50/15 all round. What a difference the new wheels/tyres and alignment made. It's like driving a completely different car! It's all coming together now, still not happy with the height. It could use a bit of a drop but I'll fix that up when I get the chance.

The next day my old man and I had a go at mounting the Sparco onto the stock rails. Everywhere I'd read everyone said it was so easy, turned out to be a bit of a mission but we got it done. Most importantly I met up with one of my friends, got to take the roof off, put the heater on full bore and go for a drive through the Dandenongs, Healesville and Kinglake. Sick!

That's it for the car for now. Next on the shopping list are some new pads and rotors. I just signed up to do a DECA day in August with my friend's car club. I want to start tracking this thing, learn how to drive properly and most importantly have some fun.

Thanks for looking,

Jarrod

Hi Jarrod,

Great thread mate, keep up the good work.

By the way, how much did each of those RE002 set you back?

Kev05: Thanks mate! I got them for $205 a tyre. It sucks though because Bridgestone had a special in may where it was buy 3 tyres, get 1 free

tobias: hey man yeah it sucks but oh well, it'll get fixed soon. No where near as bad as Ben's car though haha we need to organize a cruise some time!

Looks great!

Planning to get some 15x8 6UL on 205/50/15 for my NB8B as well.
Any scrubbing or brake clearance issues?
