Just realised why people laugh when I drive past!! Maybe it's because i'm wearing my lifejacket!!

Radar shows it's still pouring at home and Norwegian 48 hour shows maybe another 50mm plus next 24 hours!

No no no no :!: :!: :!:

You have to listen to that NZ Ken Ring they get on 7 network, In late May he said for SEQ 'June 20mm, July 10mm, August 5mm' so very dry!! Funny that, 136.5mm so far this month at my place!! It IS June isn't it?

The lever switch thingy on the left side of the steering wheel is called a 'wiper' :!: :!:

Hi folks - I'm thinking of coming out on the 23rd for my first "real" track day (done happy laps at Lakeside, but never an open limit / timed event).

So, I need to join the MX5 club and pay my fees etc. Getting the car ready and organising my insurance.

I sent an email to compsecmx5@miata.net.au but haven't yet heard from that person.

Anybody else I can email and discuss the details? I'm a bit unsure on the steps even though it is fairly clear on the QLD MX5 website I just wish to confirm a few things.

You will be most welcome! We should have quite a few newbies having their first go at Lakeside

The 'compsec' does not normally reply to emails, he just collates those that indicate they could/would/will be there so he has an idea of numbers

The link attached will give you all you need to know, main things are you DON'T have to be a member, you will require an AASA licence which can be obtained at the track Office on the day [either one day or for 12 months], you will require a CTP extension for your insurer that's mentioned on the vehicle registration [not your normal car insurance company] An indemity form can be downloaded from the link below and filled out on the day

A 'timing device' is required, these can be purchased from the track Office for $80 or rented for the day at $80 with a $60 refund when returned - easily attached to the car and accurate!!

If you have any queries at all feel free to mention them here, NO question is stupid or dumb, best everyone is clear about all things!!

The main thing is you WILL have fun, you DON'T have to be fast and you will meet lots of likeminded MX5 enthusiasts!!

I have listed two links, both are relevant. When making payment [cheaper if paid by Monday 9 July next for discount] please ensure in the 'reference' section at the Bank or where ever, you show your name and the track date [i.e 'John Smith-Track 23July'] that way the Treasurer and the Competition Secretary know payment has been made and for whom it relates

Any questions at all, there is sure to be someone cruising this 'topic' that will be only too happy to assist

That Ken Ring was on 7 late May and I took notice of the next three months according to him! June = 20mm, July = 10mm and August = 5mm

I thought oh well so much for the garden and lawns! To this morning I have only had a piddling 189.5mm for the month, damn the tank must almost be empty!

Closely watching the forecasts for Sunday 8 July and the 'Maleny Meanders', a chance to blow the cobwebs out of the MX5 a week before Lakeside!

Thanks - should focus on the paper work and get my payment into the club. I think I should join as I've been meaning to attend some other events and track days.

Who is best to contact re the club membership?

Nearly forgot!!

21 DAYS TO GO :!: :!: :D

Don't forget your discounted entry fee if paid no later than Monday 9 July

A reminder about the timing devices, $80 to purchase [if they have them available] or $80 with $60 refund to hire. I will ring QR tomorrow and check on the availablility, last time I spoke with Neil and JT they believed sufficient stock would be available by 23 July

Make a post here if anything you are not sure of or questions that need answers - always someone lurking that can answer

What time does the session actually starts (12pm-4pm)?
What time should I get there (11am)?
By the way, I'm not driving, just spectating.

Kev

I usually get there around 9 - 9.30am, unpack the car, stick my numbers on and then sit back. Drivers Briefing is around 11.30am and then kick off around noon, so spectating 11am is fine but better to wander along thru the pits, meet a few people, BRING A FOLD UP CHAIR, and then sit back with a few and have a 'chin wag'

Remember to take your camera, guarantee you will take 400+ photos and all will be appreciated by those running, we can show you where you can and can't go and you will get the best action shots!!

After the days over I bet you say 'OK, count me in for the next one!!' Must admit I watched I think 4 meets before I got the courage to have a run and haven't looked back! Oh how good to break 1:20 on the first day, I think it was a 1:14.91 back then!! Now it's a battle to shave just 0.10secs of a lap!!
