Thought I would put this event in this forum for more exposure to WA folk. I just sent off my entry and payment.

For those that have not seen this event before it is basically a single venue tarmac rally run at Kwinana Motorplex. You get everything from stock standard road cars through to super cars and dedicated targa rally cars, 80 entries means a good variety of cars.
You get to carry a co-driver in the car and you can have a different person per run if you want.
I navigated for the 2011/2012 series and had a great time with it....though once the driver has done it a few times there is not much navigating to do

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
Was reminded about this earlier today, i'll try and be there to shoot some photos.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
It would be awesome to see a few MX5's enter!
It really is a fun and very well run series. That 80 cars with between 2 and 5 crew sign on, scruitineer, do a sighting run and then do 4 competitive runs in all of 3.5 hours with the only delay being if someone crashes or blows up shows just how slick it all is. Heck in the last series we had a powercut at the Motorplex but the organisers did not bat an eye...we just ran in the pitch dark with no delays!

Sounds awesome! Bugger it's on the same day as the mx5 club funkhana tho!
Is it run annually or more often? Couldn't seem to find any info on future events.

It runs as a series and has done for a few years now.
The weeknight format is great, short and sweet and doesn't take up your weekend.

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
I have seen some great photos from the night events, lots of different vantage points around the spectator areas and with the serious cars you get glowing brakes, exhaust flames and a face full of rally car multi headlight set up.
This is the first Sunday event they have done. I think the events are so popular that the organisers have pretty much just been bugged in to it.
I fully expect to be slow and near the bottom, I have acted as co-driver at a number of these but I have not dríven them. I will likely be on road tyres in a not very modified car to.....Just thought I would get my excuses laid down early.

Looks like a lot of fun to drive
It's more like a tarmac rally than a race track so corners can be unforgiving

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
Yeah there is normally an incident or two per round....Motorsport is dangerous.
Most of the accidents that have resulted in that sort of damage happen at the pointy end where people are pushing that bit harder for the win or it is people that head out there and give it 10/10ths when they are pushing their own limits at 7/10ths.
I remember that Honda, I was stood next to it a fair while after it happened and you could hear it creaking and occasionaly cracking as the stored energy slowly released.

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
My what an epic day of motorsport that was. Still riding the high from it!
Shame there were not any more MX5's entered. It would have been good to have some more cars there running around the same times as me. Unfortunately MX5's get bumped in to a class with Elises, clubmans, race prepped Escorts etc so I never really stood a chance, we should stick together and get more people in to these events! I had a very nervous co-driver in the morning who decided to pull out in the afternoon....luckily I ran in to the lovely Sticky Nicky whos partner was co-driving for someone whos car lost its clutch so he jumped in with me for the afternoon. Very trusting and I hope he had fun!
Anyway I still had a seriously good time and ended up 8th out of 12 in class. I am happy with that as my times fell during the day and it proved to me that despite holding back in the morning for the sanity of my co-driver the car and myself are competitive. I will be entering the full series this year, by then the car will be on coilovers and semi slicks so we will see what times I can lay down!

Re: McRae Rallysprint 22nd July
Glad you had a great day James, sounds like Carl enjoyed your passenger seat.
It wasn't a good day for dakdaks with Robbies car on fire , Dave smashing up the front of his car, Doug bending 2 rims, Lachlan's RS having issues, Lyalls clutch but I bet Jamie wishes he was in his wrecks as the heave hoe did a transfer case.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yes I think he did enjoy it, at least he got to finish his day out anyway. He is very good at making up notes as he goes, really let me concentrate on just driving the thing. I think there will be arguments over who gets him to co-drive during the series!
It was a shame to see so many cars bent or broken down. I guess thats racing though.
I am really itching to get out again, I think I have really found my motorsport calling in tarmac rally. This was a bigger rush than anything I have done on circuit. No where in the hell am I supposed to find the budget and the car to do a proper targa event?!?!
I saw that picture of me on facebook...dont seem to be many other pictures online though and the organisers dont seem to have people there in an official capacity.

I'll keep an eye on Fil's photos and tag any more I see of your car.
