Semi Slick Tyre or other?

I did visit my local high-performance motor sport person on saturday. He did recommend Yokohama A050M and said everyone using them. For $300 + each many people must be rich.

So my question: Please recommend a good tyre for me that is good for track and street. I want a good reliable tyre that does not let go suddenly like my first wife and get everyone excited. It must be legal for the street, an old man like me does not wish to swap jokes with Inspector Plod while he writes ticket for illegal tyres.!!

But I do want a tyre that sticks like poo to a blanket.

My tyres are 195-50-15 on my little car.

Would that be a wet blanket or a dry blanket that you want the poo to stick to? :wink:

Yokohama AD050 is not for you. It's an R-spec tyre that is not suited to regular road use (although it is street legal).

If you've got the cash, Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs are a fantastic tyre on the track and street. You'll need to buy them from a motorsport specialist.

But for street use and occasional trackdays, your NA will do fine with a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalins.

Get yourself a quality four-wheel alignment while you're at it ... preferably from a wheel alignment specialist NOT from whoever fits your tyres.

As Guran said, A050 is way overkill for what you're after. Get yourself a good street tyre and you'll be fine.

Might not be ideal, but I can easily source a set on 195/50r15s Kumho semis, they did a few laps at the wakey 300, which was soaking wet so they never really got any heat in them (x lanos)
They were purchased pre 300 for over 1000, my offer to cartalkers 650 pickup in Sydney.

there is quite a bit of choice in that size.

as everyone has said the a050 is a road legal semi slick racing tyre. you will hate driving on it on the road. they will hum like crazy and dart around a lot more then road tyres.

if you don't mind spending more money on tyres that are not going to last as long but will be great on the road and track there are a few options. these fall into the category just below the semi slick in terms of performance but are much better on the road. They are designed often to do both duties of road and track. they should all work fairly well in the wet and will not make too much noise. some options are as follows.

Dunlop Direzza D1 Star Spec
Khumo KU36
Bridgestone RE-11
Yokohama AD08
Hankook RS3
Toyo R1R
Federal 595 RS-R (some may say this is a semi slick)
Nitto NT05

They should all be available in 195 or 205 50 15. They will range in price from around 170 to well over 200. Some will be harder to find than others.

I just bought some ku36 for my car. 195-50-15 cost me $109 or $111 each. There good for the street wheels don't really slip around corners in the wet either (at pace that is

I have Achilles123 had good reviews and not so bad at $165 each. Ku36 at $110 is dirt cheap though and would probably last longer. This is the first set of semis I've used so I'm not sure how long the 5mm tread of the achilles123 will last. There is a 8mm 123s but not in the 15inch.

That's an unreal price. Maybe they were old stock.

Sure they weren't KU31? That price is about spot on for 195/ KU31 at a place like Bob Janes.

oh wait they were 31. I was going to get 36 but 2 of my wheels came with ku31s already on them. my bad :roll:

Many thank yous to your help, I did buy Adrenalin tyres at fair price.Tyre man smiling as he take my money so it must be fair ?
But good tyres they are ! Not screech like hormonal cat when cornering.
So today mechanik is aligning wheels and also to replace CAS seal, which is leaking a plethora of oil.

This I may tell of tomorrow as we are to have raining. But tonight my little car is in mechaniks care. As rear brake pads worn and no new part until tomorrow ! But I think it will be of interest as car has had viagra to suspension and body, for stiffness when partying!
