Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Sorry if these are in any way confusing.
You can see 2 pipes marked 'cat' and 'hotdog' being used for fitup while I try to work out exacty where it will split to 2x2" pipes, the whole exhaust will be built with no components, then the components added, because I dont have a hoist its difficult to maneuver an exhaust with a cat a hotdog flanges that twist (v bands spin any way around) and 2 mufflers.
The photos suck, deal with it.

Looking good Dann...I am certain that the brace is the same as my NB8B has. I really dont think Mazda changed a great deal of metal work between models.

I thought you were fitting a stealth turbo down under the boot.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Fabricated 2.25"-> 2x 2" collector.
This is to take it down to 2" and keep exhaust velocity out the twin tips.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Ah yes I see how you shrunk it. Still looking awesome...really seems to be flying together.
Would you even get enough exhaust velocity back there for it to work and would it make enough boost to get all the way back to the engine? Would be an interesting thing to see!
But no this is not a boot mounted turbo. I approached Dann a while back to build me an exhaust system and he has managed to tee it up with getting an NB for some other work so he is able to build my exhaust on that car at the same time. Good job he seems to enjoy it!!

It's beautiful weather here in Perth, James is probably on the coast somewhere sipping cold beer and watching the world go by.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
So heres the updates..
Due to different interpretations on what exactly 2" and 2.25" actually is, there have been a fair few fabricated cones.
Basically a lot of parts are designed to be mig'd together as fast as possible. For this reason 2.25" catalytic convertors are not 2.25", they are 2.4 or something so that you can slip it over a 2.25" straight pipe or bend and just aim your MIG at it and spray that pipe like you are mowing down enemies with an AK47.
So Anyways, in order to get properly converging pipes and have no steps in the pipework Ive done a lot of extra fab.
It means extra work, extra TIG welds and extra flow velocity. So now theres so little pipe size difference that none of the pipes will fi into each other at all. Less than a millimetre.
You will see that the whole exhaust is completely above the frame rails and factory bracing.

Feedback?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
I cant pick anything wrong with it at all, very happy with what you have achieved so far!
I love that up until where it will split for the twin exit everything is fitting in with where the original exhaust runs, there will never been an issue with it being really obviously aftermarket or issues with ground clearence. Well done Dann.

ive had a few drinks...
Basically with a welder and an angle grinder you can do anything. Its awesome, everyone should try it.
