You cannot do 400 on a 6 speed, but the car wont be raced at 40m. Probably 320 odd.

Not worried the torque of a twincharged engine will blow a 6speed to bits?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
I'm not certain that the FC diff withh be any better than an MX5 diff. (talking internals here, not the casing)
I'm pretty sure the MX5 and the FC have interchangable diff centres, and I'm pretty sure they have the same sized crown (7inch)
edit:
after a quick google it appears the Turbo FC had an 8in crown.
N/A FC was the same 7in as in the NA8/NB MX5 diffs.

Good work Dann. If you were in Melbourne I'd get you to do stuff for me.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
I always fancied you could use (or mimic) the Flyin Miata V8 conversion parts for such a project and use something like their tubular front end.

With an adaptor plate or custom bellhousing you could get a Chev / GM / Holden 6 speed and use their frame rail gearbox mounts.
FM also do a diff carrier to take a Ford rear end: http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dep ... 20%208.8S1
No more PPF and I reckon a driveline that you could dump 500BHP through all day long.

There arent enough windows in an mx5 to make up for that weight!

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
I have a turbo FC diff sitting here to go in to my MX5 if the standard torsen shits itself.
I think the diff will be fine though. MX5 gearbox's on the other hand are not real strong, even the 6 speeds

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
i would have thought drive shafts would be the weak point along with the gearbox. you can get clutch type diffs that are good to handle the power but they do cost a small fortune.
should be an interesting process once you get to the power and torque levels.

I thought the weak point of the MX5 diff wans't so much the centre, as the crown and pinion?
I thought the issue was large torque loads breaking the crown/pinion, then the bits from that taking the centre with it.

The kansei said.
Spot on, the TII has an 8" ring gear, so its the way to go. No documented cases of broken FC trans and diff swaps.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
This was my thought too... Mania have a mazdaspeed centre for 450 atm, which I am very interested in but was concerned that the pinion and ring gear will detonate when I throw my 150kw at it, leaving me starting again saving for my 1.8 diff conversion. Any help would be appreciated from others who have played the game before.
Just saved me from starting a thread on this.... Thanks guys

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
On a 1.6 diff, the ring and pinion arent the first failures, its the pinion bearings, they fail first, usually the non dríven bearing (the one that takes load when engine braking) fully fails first, in my experience. then the ring and pinion lash is stuffed and they tear each other to shreds, start on a 1.8 diff. I have been through 5 diffs. The 1.8 has lasted me 2 years so far no worries. its even taken stationary dumped 3rd gear burnouts in the dry off the 8500rpm limiter.

More boosts and an angle grinder?
Good to see the fitting got there safely this time.
