Ball joints and Tie Rods.

Postby toddl1 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:05 pm

I'm looking for new ball joints an tie rod ends for my NA6.
I've found some mazda genuine ball joints on one of the forum sponsor's sites, but they are $100 each :/
Does anybody know of any aftermarket parts available? the only ones that I have been able to find are a company in the US called MOOG who sell through amazon, but do not ship to Aus.

cheers.

What is wrong with $100, they are $130 from Mazda.
I know I just priced them.

Just bought these -

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130489809041 ... 572wt_1139

They look like the 93le version for lowered mx5s with bump steer issues.

Thanks for the responses.

@Waz man $130 for a pair is reasonable $100 each is not.

@CHRISTolo I saw those on ebay, but I'm always slightly suspicious of no name ebay stuff. Has anybody fitted these? If they are in fact good though that's quite a bargain.

also the ebay one says it only suits power steering models, mine is manual steering.
Is there a difference in the parts? because it doesnt say anything on the genuine ones.

For manual steering - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Tie-Rod-En ... 572wt_1297

Click on "See other Items" then search for miata/mx5.

Be wary of ebay tie rods and ends. There have been some horror stories from the U.S. of snappage. I couldn't figure out how they were snapping and am not sure of the truth or if they were incorrectly installed, but I decided to steer clear.

cheap tie rod ends (bjs) not a good plan. Go to Bursons and get a quote and ask them to tell you who the maker is. Various local bearing suppliers will be able to source and give a price. There are certain aftermarket suppliers with a good reputation. Pamex may well be right- poor quality steel and this product takes a lot wear and tear.

not to mention, if there were one thing I'd prefer not break on my car, it's the steering.

And brakes.

I just went into Repco after being told a lower ball joint was now $150 from Mazda, they said I could pick up one on Monday and it was $62.
Fantastic!

Crap! Crap! Crap!

They got the part in and it is not for a MX5 it is for a Kia something.
It was listed in their parts book but it does not fit - wankers

Too good to be true, was rining in my ears.
