We'll both have very similar builds, same ITBs, same TechnoToyTuning adapter, COPs, ported head and massive cams, etc...

Where is your build at? Finished? if so what kind of power did you make, if not what are you chasing

No way near finished, taking my time like you. Not sure what power im chasing, just more of a fun project I'm doing and don't really care too much about the power. Will go turbo later for power.

bit of a mile stone today, the engine fired up pretty much first time
Switched it off straight away because I still have a fair few things to finish off, like put the O2 sensor in the exhaust, put the pulley on my alternator, sort out the throttle linkage and do all the water plumbing, but it was very re-assuring to have it fire up with the minimum.
One issue I have is, either my battery is dead (quite possible) or it does not have the power to turn the engine very well. Could be that the new motor is a bit tight, but could be the compression

Great news! There's a coffee tomorrow, got my car back together, it's been off the road since last Forum coffee meet. I'll try and be there if my battery charges up fine. Hope you guys can make it. This one is near Midland, details in the WA events section of the forum.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm always keeping an eye on the forums while I'm here in Singapore, it definitely makes me homesick (or at least MX5-sick) and very jealous!

Managed to get a fair bit done on the car this week end, the list of jobs is getting shorter. I have just the back brake hose to make and the coolent plumbing to finish.
Here is my begi coolent re-route, I have had to got down the hot side of the engine bay, which gave me some challenges, there is only enough room.
I need to get a silicone reducer.
Coolent re-route in progress.
Because the manifold is from the US, they don't have this issue, the TPS pushes up against the clutch pipe, should be ok.
Hopefully finish stuff next week

With your tps, why not banjo with flex line. does away with all that steel line and can be routed away from tps.

Hi Terry, Laura is great, she is 9 months old already - just shows how long the 5 has been off the road She keep us busy. My wife saw that I needed a day of car threapy, hence the work
Good Idea on the clutch cylinder, I guess I could get it machined flat and get a banjo on there. I will probably add it to my list of things to do when I have got it running again. Focusing on essentials at the min. There are a few things I am not totally happy with to sort out later, like a new fuel reg and change the fuel lines - stuff like that, but my car has always been a bit of a 'millenium falcon' - looks like junk, but has got it where it needs it! It pains me sometimes to bolt some grubby parts on to a new engine, but it's a race car not a show car.
Hopefully have a big push over the next few weeks.

Well here it is the first real start The battery is still struggling a bit to turn the engine.
Got pretty much everything sorted now, but was not able to go and break the rings in because I have a small water leak at the back of the head where the begi adapter is, should not take too much to sort, but out of time today.
Also, I am a little concerned about the noise of the motor, something is very rattley - I have had a listen to the top end on the valve cover and it pretty quiet. Could just be the combination of new engine, solid mounts and solid lifters.
Hope to get the water leak fixed next week and start the running in. SOX has found me a dyno that I can hire, so that will be awesome.

If you want a spare clutch master cylinder to get machine flat for a banjo fitting, sing out as I have a few sitting around gathering dust. You can have one if it helps with the progress.

+ Car is now drivable, the rings have been run in and the fuel table for up to 4000rpm is sorted enough to run the engine in for about another 100km. The gearbox I put in there, seems okay, so that it good since it was an unknown quantity. The new paddle clutch is very grabby and you need quite a few revs to get it moving, but that is as expected since everything is lightened.
- got a very small oil leak, I think it is comeing from where the oil pump joins to the main oil gallery in the block, at least it is not an engine out job. The other thing is the noise. It is the valve clearances - the gaps are from 0.15-0.45mm and that is hot, so these need sorting out. Most of them are over the cold tolerence.
Question is, what should the hot clearances be?
