Chefie

I run an NB8A as well, under the bonnet is standard but over the past 2 years I have added things as I go along

You DON'T have to be fast, you will be placed in a Group based on lap times, someone doing their first ever would be placed with the 'slower' drivers, and after that should you prove much faster you will be moved up in accordance

There will be plenty there that will be only to happy to give you any assistance and tips you require, no 'sheep stations' just lots of fun, some are damn fast [Group 1] others 'almost fast' and others that prefer to learn technique, cornering, corner lines etc

Overall you will have the BEST day with a great bunch of people :!:

See you there :D

Track days are excellent fun...about as much fun as you can legally have in a car these days now that virtually all drive-in movies have closed. Have a look at the attached PDF which is short article that went into the club magazine. It should answer your questions. One of the things you will need that has recently changed is the necessity for a lap timer transponder with integral battery (looks like a garage door remote control). These are available from Qld Raceways for $80 to purchase or $20 to hire for the day.

See you there.

My advice would be to make QR your first day rather than Lakeside. There's a lot more run off area!

JBT

I worked at the Drive-In in Wagga Wagga from 1982 until early 1988 when it closed, also worked at Keperra Drive-In from 1995 until it closed early 1998, loved the work and could write a book or three about 'incidents'!!

See me next track day for a few hilarious anecdotes!! Like the bull that broke loose, came thru the exit gate ....... :!:

There's no big deal with Lakeside if you drive to your ability and the conditions. If you don't try to be a hero and follow the correct lines you'll have no problems at all.

chefie

If you are prepared to drive to your ability Lakeside is fun and you learn a lot, if you want to try and go flat out regardless, saboteur said it all :!:

I was the SLOWEST car on my first day out, didn;t worry me at all, I learnt what it could do and I knew at the time what my limits were - I left plenty of room for improvement :!:

I may be pretty daft but I can't identify my limits until I exceed them!

Regardless, you will have a blast if you don't do anything silly!

saboteur & chefie

If 'daft' = 'quick', then YOU'RE DAFT :!: :D

Seriously 'chefie' you WILL have fun, just take it as it comes, walk thru the pits [mine is silver NB8A #141], you will be more than welcome :!:

Last meet at QR on 21 May there would have been 8-10 newbies having their first run, I don't know ONE that didn't enjoy the day :!:

Saboteur, as a 'moderator', should I have put that post about the Falcon GT in 'great twisty roads'?

I still beleive it is better to test those limits, of car and driver, on the track than on the street.
(would not have been my opinion 5 years ago)
And keep in mind, if you do 'bin' it, there will be plenty of cameras to record for posterity

Hi "Chefie"
Can I suggest that you attend the July 23 Sprint meeting at Lakeside Park as a spectator. Talk to as many of us as you can and get a feel of how the day works. You will end the day with a wealth of knowledge and an eagerness to try your car at Queensland Raceway in Sept. As has been mentioned, if you are a little nervous about your first track time then QR will be the best place to start. After that you will have a "feel" for how your car works.
Hope to see you at Lakeside,
The Pirate #99 (Alan)
I'm easier to spot as I don't drive an MX5 (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

You'll be fine with that attitude. Plenty of people have had their first track experience at Lakeside and never had a problem...but they did come away with a huuuuuge grin. :)

I bought my first MX5 February 2010

Went and watched the first track day at Lakeside [could I do that as well?] then the second, third and fourth, all as a spectator

Finally got the courage to have aa go at QR and loved it, was the slowest on track but that didn't matter, then finished the year at Lakeside and had a ball!!

What do I think after that? I should have run ALL of them!! Now I count the days to the next one :!: In case you're wondering, it's 42 days to go :!: :!: :!:

Chefie, I dont' mind saying it but I did my first track day 39 years ago at the Hume Weir circuit near Albury in a standard 180B, I was so slow they timed me on a sundial BUT, I did get a little faster and progressed to a calender!!

It's a pity, all track days are schedule on Monday. It is impossible for me to take Mondays off work to attend. My situation will probably improve in 21years time when I retire.

Have to laugh, my first track plans was a 180B in melbourne 25 years back it never made it for all sorts of reasons, definatley looking forward to lakeside and ive got the bosses approval.

Ill need a couple of rear tyres as a startup should i chase the KU36s or throw a cheap set of Ku31 on to start, ive read many of the threads just looking for opinions if i should spend the extra on 36's

Thanks for all the feedback
