Headunit still on after car switched off?

Postby Side_wayz » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:38 pm

Even when theres no key in the ignition, my headunit still plays, i noticed theres a fuse box under the steering wheel, that has a fuse 10A called ROOM, i take that out and the unit turns off, but when the key is in the ON position or car is running, the unit won't turn on.

Anyone know a way around this?

Aftermarket head unit ? Has someone has wired it this way on purpose ?- normal is car off, key out = radio off can't be turned on.

When you say that when the key is on / car is running the radio wont turn off do you mean that it's actualy playing and can't be turned off or just that it's live ?

Removing that fuse will the power to the headunit and interior lights.

Does it always do it or only sometimes?
If it's always I'd take a punt that someone has wired it in wrong, with the accessory wire going to a constant power source.

Could be kinda handy sometimes, eg if u head into a shop or something and take the key out of habit and your passenger wants to listen to the radio.. But make sure u have a good battery.

Yeah someone has wired it wrong, both 12v battery wire and acc 12v are constantly running, i checked back further back since someone wired it in the past and hes done the correct wiring by putting the AAC on the blue/black wire, i tested that and that is running constant 12v aswell, i followed the blue/blackthe wire even further and it goes under the center console through a little hole. Seems like a bit of a job now... No idea how to access that area.

When you say centre console do you mean the head unit surround, or the conosle with the ash tray running between the seats?

Either way the instructions for removing both can be found here.

The three sections you should read up on are;

I Remove eyeball vents
VI Remove centre arm rest
VII Remove centre console panel.
