Howdy,
I have just had a quote to fill some stone chips and re-spray my front bar.
I was told that it would be $440 on the books, or $350 cash.
It seems quite steep to me. I've always estimated re-sprays at about $250 per panel.
Can anyone verify if this is on the pricey side?
And does anyone have any contacts for panel shops in Melbourne inner eastern suburbs? (Oakleigh, Caulfield, Malvern area?)
Cheers
Will

I have just been given a quote of $1,000 to paint and fit a GV nose cone as well as paint the bonnet to my NA. The nose cone has a few stone chips plus it also needs to have a change of colour from red to Mazda "aliminium silver" also the bonnet has the clear coat damaged. In addition there will also be a Mazda "aliminium silver" stripe being put on the bonnet (the car is blue).

Yeah, seems like a lot more work than mine.
For $350 cash, i would be dropping the bar off to them.
I would be re-fitting it and re-applying the stripe.
Any other indications on going prices would be great!

quickest is just ask for some more quotes. The MX5 factory specialises in painting. $350 covers labour materials and use of facilities presumably baked enamel.

Re: Price on repainting front bar??? -Melbourne
My quote has just increased due to some previous repairs to the nose cone being a little inadequate as well as the previous paint job was done without etching the surface (so the paint almost rubs off). Plus I'm getting a few small dents pulled out as well. My panel beater (who is also cutting the rust out of my Fiat X1/9) and where my son works part time (and also repaired my Kia Grand Carnival which was it up the arse by an unisured/unlisenced driver) is taking some photos for me so I'll add these to the garage thread.
I agree that if you are not happy with the price shop around. However, the panel beater I use has being doing a great restore on the Fiat as well as the Kia so I'm sure he will give my MX5 the best attention to detail and sometimes this is worth the extra cost. Plus he rings me up and lets me know if things change and a decision needs to be made.

not a bad price. consider prepping and painting a bumper that's the shape of ours.... lots of curves - has a top, bottom and two sides unlike a bonnet for instance that's just one big mostly flat plane.
$300-$400 per panel seems to be the norm.
ps painting silver is harder than most other colours, even other metallics.

Nope, you all make a good point.
I'd looked at it as a 'per panel' charge. But yes, the bumpers would be the most laborious to prep.

I briefly worked at a panel shop..... because I was a school kid I got the job of rubbing back bumpers ready for spraying.
It's a sh*t job, depending on the bar, there's easily about 30mins to an hours work (and I was just scuffing up the surface, I wasn't even stripping paint etc)

$600 to remove nose from NB8A, repaint, re-align and refit
I thought that a fair price - Hadwen's Prestige [Brisbane]
