Dash/Cluster warning lights?

Postby Roderic » Tue May 22, 2012 3:20 am

Hi All,
Just wondering are you supposed to see all warning lights when you turn the car to ign?
I'm getting "Charge" & "Seatbelt", if which the charge will go out after the engine is started, and the seatbelt goes out when you put on your belt.
There is also the "Brake" and "Engine" lights but they dont come on.
I thought it could have been a globe issue, so I change the, also tried swapping the known working "Seatbelt" globe to the "Brake" spot on the back of the cluster but no luck.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a safe way to check if the "Brake" and "Engine" lights are working?

Thanks in advance for a great forum
Regards
Rod

Dash/Cluster warning lights?

Pull up the handbrake, the light will come on, if it doesn't check the handbrake switch or the connection before you go pulling the dash.

Just went and checked my NB (amazing what you take for granted).
Ign: Battery
Airbag
Park Brake
Seat Belt

The factory immobiliser comes on briefly when the engine starts

Hope this helps.

Excuse the hijack, but what are the lights on either side of the square warning light panel, seen here.

I can't see the image at work, but if you shine a bright light on them you should be able to see the symbols.

At a guess, I'd say one might be airbag (US market)
and the other might be the cat-warming lamp (Japan market)

It wouldn't surprise me if for foreign markets they still put them in, just didn't put in bulbs or the other bits associated with them.

The side lights are for ABS and the windscreen washer bottle.

Im not sure if any Aus cars ever used the ABS light. US cars did. I dont think any cars ever used the low washer bottle light.

The Airbag light was on the tacho for US cars.

Doesn't mean Mazda didn't put a provision there for it to save cost.

Think, they make millions of clusters, all the same, but save money by making tiny changes. (rather than keep a stock of USA gauges, JDM gauges, Aussie gauges, German gauges, etc)

For the USA market, they change the speedo face to MPH and put a globe in behind the ABS and Airbag lights.
For Japan market they take the same cluster and put a globe in for the Cat warmer.
For Aussie market they use the same cluster and don't put any globes in.

My Aussie delivered NB8A has provision for an ABS light despite the Aussie ones not getting ABS.
