Re: BRASS MONKEY & MX5 RETURN RUN - 3 JUNE 2012
ROUTE FROM BATHURST RSL TO MT PANORAMA CIRCUIT & THE START OF THE MX5 RETURN RUN
The Brass Monkey is not a MX-5 Club of NSW event. As people will be scattered throughout the auditorium at the Bathurst RSL or eating in town at breakfast this post is in the form of an advance briefing for the MX5 Return Run. To ensure that everyone is briefed on what is to happen after breakfast and allow you to leave the RSL early to refuel or drive around the Mountain or whatever before we leave Bathurst, here is a heads up:-
Route to the Circuit: The plan is to leave the RSL at 10.00 am to drive to Mt Panorama via Keppell Street past the The Hub Café to pick up anyone still there who had taken up the suggestion to have their breakfast at that venue.
Meeting Places: Depending on what is available the first choice for a meet up point on the circuit is the hardstand opposite McPhillamy Park on the top of the mountain. The second option, if the hardstand is not available, is on the paved area off to the side of the roadway at the start of Pitt Straight. If it is raining then see below.
Signing On: If I haven’t caught up with you at Eastern Creek or during breakfast, then you will be required to formally sign on to join the MX5 Return Run. It may seem to be a pain in the arse but the Club, organisers, run leaders and those who are members of CAMS affiliated club want the protection afforded by our CAMS insurances. Signing on is a prerequisite for cover. You can either sign on in the street outside the RSL between 9.45 and 10.00am or at Mt Panorama between 10.15 and 10.30am. If it is raining see below.
MX5 Return Run Route: We leave our meeting place on Mt Panorama Circuit for places south at 10.30am sharp. Subject to the weather conditions on Sunday, we will follow the Route Map in “More Info” on the Club’s Event Calendar the link is https://sitedesq.imgstg.com/customdata/ ... OrgID=4704. A final call will be made after breakfast, if necessary. If you miss the start refer to the Route Map and catch up or give me a call on 0413 11 33 99. With any luck I will get your call and let you know what is happening. See below for any changes.
IF IT IS RAINING OUR RETURN PLANS WILL BE REVIEWED
MEETING PLACE will change to the lounge in the Bathurst RSL at 10.15 for a 10.30 departure if it is raining , you do not need a ticket to enter the RSL as a visitor.
RETURN ROUTE will be reviewed in line with the weather conditions and announced at the final briefing.
I DO NOT HAVE A CONTACT MOBILE NUMBER FOR FEEL-IXX OR MR2SPYDER to contact them on a change of plans. Could they please send me a PM with your mobile numbers or text them to me so I can let them know if we are meeting in the Bathurst RSL in lieu of Mt Panorama.
LATE ENTRY TICKETS FROM AHOC AT EASTERN CREEK OR BATHURST. If the weather is rain or even showers you can bet that at least 10% of the 230 ticket holders will not turn up and another 5% for some other reason cannot make breakfast. For those MX5ers without tickets I will speak with AHOC at Eastern Creek and Bathurst to try to get some extra tickets. Please approach me if you want a breakfast ticket at Eastern Creek or the RSL.
IF IT IS RAINING THEN IT ONLY ADDS TO THE ALLURE AND ADVENTURE OF THE BRASS MONKEY

The MX5 Return Run is a Club Event and it is possible that not everyone will be at the RSL. This year we have 25 cars on the Return Run list, a few will drop out and we could pick up a few more on the day. The Club is responsible to keep our members and guest MX-5s informed as best we can. Everyone should have the opportunity of knowing what is going on beforehand as the forecast is for rain but how much
A MX-5 brand will hopefully be the first roadster to park outside the breakfast venue and the most represented marque at this years Brass Monkey as it has for the past few years. We have our MX5 Iceberg Run in August and the Austin Healeys have their Brass Monkey where the only information for their cannonball run is the starting time and breakfast venue when they announce the running of the event.
PS. IF YOU WANT TO SET THE RECORD TO BATHURST ON A BRASS MONKEY THEN BE THERE BEFORE 8.00am.

I will be pulling the pin on Sunday if it is wet as just can,t enjoy the roads as much in the wet and it will give me the day to spend in the garage working on the other cars. May still go to the meet up as I am usually up early anyways.

See in the morning Peter, the Brass Monkey is for people willing to risk appendages in the cold and wet that you do not have to pull out to pass water

While we're on this topic, is it better to have higher or lower tyre pressure for driving in the wet?? (given that the Tyres have good tread to start off with)

id say lower...but the tyres should be set to the optimum pressure anyways, dont need to change for wet driving

Tyres work best when they're inflated to their correct operating pressure. With rain, it is important to have the pressures perhaps even a little higher, so the tread / sipes are fully open and channel the water away effectively.. DO NOT ask me how I come about that little bit of knowledge..
