Yellow NA6 Roadster Race Car
So, now I'm officially an MX-5 owner again. It's been a while although this little one is a fair bit different to my last MX-5.
I won't bore you with too many details, but here it is in my workshop having just arrived. First things first, I'll need to put it on our intercomp scales and find out how heavy it isn't.
It's a good base to start with, but I have a lot of work to do till I find myself in a happy place with the car.

Re: Yellow NA6 Roadster Race Car
All you need is a set of adj coil overs, front sway bar, decent rims - 949 racing, and r specs. And I would give it a full service, fluids/ timing belt, etc. And corner weight while you have it on the scales.

Re: Yellow NA6 Roadster Race Car
It has coil overs, although ride height hub to guard seems a little out. There isn't much adjustment in height to play with however there needs to be as it's sitting very high as you can see in the pictures. The coil overs are a 'kings springs' brand which I hadn't heard of until today...maybe I run in different circles hehe.
The car feels okay on road, although it was apparent as soon as I drove it out the driveway it's in desperate need of an LSD. First things first we'll adjust the suspension and give it a wheel alignment and see how that feels, from there If it needs it we'll whack in a front anti-roll bar.
It'll no doubt it'll have some Hankook Z221's in a medium compound on it soon enough, we are a Hankook Motorsport tyre dealer after all. ;) and the wheels just out of want require a change, perhaps some RPF01's or a BBS in a 15". It'll get a service for sure, and I'll whack it on the dyno tomorrow I think. I did have some spare time today to put it on the scales and I'm somewhat suprized it's as heavy as it is.

I will sell you some lightweight doors. You will drop 40kgs. It's no feather weight, but cages are heavy. Should keep the 1.6 rear, and lock it. The 1.8 rears are heavier. Boot is heavy too, especially once you take off all the hinge and spring ass. I am just finishing a set of na doors in carbon fibre, they will weigh under 2kgs.

Thanks plohl, and the legs are made by king springs, as i said it's the first I've heard of kings Springs making suspension, but there you go. Look here: http://www.kingsprings.com.au/prosport.htm
Far out Mr. Lightyear they sound like damn light doors. Might have to talk to you about Carbon doors ;) Oh, and the boot has had the hinges removed already.

Welcome back Dan.
Those are the Victorian MX-5 club Dyno day will know Dan and Daz own a business called Road Track Rally http://www.roadtrackrally.com.au.
Although they're well know for their mighty Evo X and VW Golf development car, Daz and Dan have both owned MX-5s and have a passion for Mazdas.
I've known Dan for many years (he use to work for Mazda Australia), his depth of knowledge of the automotive industry is astounding and i'm proud to announce that Road Track Rally will be a MX5Cartalk.com Gold Sponsor.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Nice score Dan! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Need to get a pic of you passing Darren's Evo round the outside at Lukey Heights for the workshop wall

Great find mate. Been eyeing it on eBay for a few weeks now and it would have been the perfect platform for tracking since most of the prep work has been done already!
P.S. I think your pics are cleaner than what the seller had haha..

Welcome back! Looks like a great start. You're probably already onto this but the rollbar looks like it's missing a diagonal member - is it logbooked already? Might need some work on the rollbar if it's not.

Re: Yellow NA6 Roadster Race Car
Thanks guys!
John, I'm looking forward to passing darrin on the outside (while he is on a cool down) and getting a photo of it. As you know, a picture is worth a thousand words, and my words will be telling a very tall story if I get that photo. ;)
Guran, correct on the cage. If' i'm honest I'm not comfortable calling it a cage, it's roll over protection with side intrusion bars at best. The rear bars are tagged nicely into the boot and the main hoop is a little higher than something like a brown and davis roll bar, so it's a good basis to work from, but it's not what I'd call a cage. In the workshop I have a Renault clio RS F1 trophy alphabet soup something something something with an FIA spec cage in it, overkill for a showroom class Tarmac Rally that isn't a Lambo, but the driver didnt want just to be in showroom class, he wanted to be in the 'come-back-home-breathing' class, and with Tarmac Rally I can understand that mentality. So by comparsion, the mx5 doesnt have a cage. For now it'll do, later though yes it'll get improved for sure.
I'm looking foward to turn wheels in anger, but before I do that it'll need a health check, spannering up every nut and bolt and not to be dissapointed before I do anything, I'll need a diff. Drove it around the block yesterday... One will spinning isnt awesome when i only have 60 odd kW.
Fun times, should be a fun car. Nice and relaxing motorsport without the pressure to perform like WTAC or Tarmac Rally. I think that's the part I'm going to like the most about this car.
