NB8A lense replacement

Postby pap11y » Fri May 18, 2012 3:10 pm

Hi All,

I really like the original headlights for my car.

What I HATE is the fact the plastic lense has cracked and looks crap.

Has anyone ever investigated replacing just the lense part of the original lights.

If I could do new safety glass or perspex lenses it would improve the look of the lights so much..

Any thoughts on where I could go to have these made up (China is too far to travel..) :)

Unfortunately Mazda only sold the whole light as a unit, and most wreckers will do the same.

I think your best bet would be a wrecking yard or other used parts retailer, then just polish and tidy up the replacement light.

To get something custom made would likely cost a lot more than the price of just replacing the whole thing.

I'll investigate as the lowest price to replace them (as new) is $800 a pair.

Parts from wreckers might be an option if they are Top notch but you are still looking at $400 ish..

HKS is right. Your best bet is used h/l in good cond. You cannot fabricate a lense. The lenses are polycarbonate and moulded in an injection moulding machine. They look simple items but the reality is there is a lot of expensive engineering and tooling.

I think I have a pair of damaged NB8A lights in the shed, i'll need to look next week and see if the lenses are still in good condition.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Thanks for that :)

I'd have to assume most lights are in a similar condition (given they are all a similar age).

Maybe I will go SE or angel eye..

No rush so I'll let this idea germinate for a while..
