Shipping is the trick. Try to work it in with a forum group buy from FM.

FM S&H is VERY expensive - when you factor in these costs, the "excellent value V-Maxx" aren't as good value as what you can purchase locally (and you can get adjustable damping included if purchased locally).

ie. For the total price, you can do better than V-Maxx.

I read this opinion a lot. But my research suggests that the Yellow Speed is good around $1000. There are some top end custom road-rally style products made in Australia that cost upwards of $4000. But if you want something in the $2000ish range, there aren't really any Austalian options. There's the Australian Ohlins importer at $3000, and BC Coilovers etc at slightly more than the Yellow..

Do you have any suggestions for a product similar to V-Maxx sourced in Australia?

I think some of the Tein range (Superstreet I think) are around the $2000 mark.

No idea how they compare to the V-Maxx though.

If i were to do the whole coilover thing again, i would go for KW V3's. I have found them landed for $1750

:P Well, today I had a set of WAT Racing height adjustable coilovers fitted, plus new front balljoints and of course a wheel alignment. Being new to the delights of MX5 ownership, I thought it handled well on the old spongy mazda speeds that were totally shot. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW. What roundabout? I'm absolutely wrapped. :D

Great that you like them - do you get the 50mm or the 57mm? What Spring Rates did you order?

Got the 57mm & 7kg front & 5kg rear. Just have to play with the "bounce" adjustment to suit me.

You really need to seek the unbiased opinion of someone who has experienced multiple brands of coilovers and you need to specify what you're looking for (ie. DD-only, track only, or all-rounder).

eg 1. I switched from SE Bilsteins to BC Racing BR series coilovers and love the BC coilovers, the ride is much smoother and the damping is adjustable. With 8kg front and 6kg rear springs, they're a good compromise for DD and track use.

eg 2. Ask someone who has replaced their tired 20 year old suspension with virtually any brand of coilover and they will swear that their new coilovers are the most awesome coilovers you can purchase since the difference will be phenomenal.

eg 3. Ask someone who has PSS9 coilovers and they will tell you that everything else is rubbish (this may actually be true but at my level, I'm not sure that I would really notice the difference between the PSS9s and my BC coilovers).

eg 4. Someone who only ever DDs their car will recommend Tein SuperStreets since they're comfortable on the road (but do not handle great on the track).
