Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Dam you have picked up some mad skills with the fab work..
Wish I had the gear to do work like that.
Congrads for you is in order man..
It sure has a stance about it now sitting there
Keep up the great work.
Where did you source your sway bars from??

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Thanks Noddi,
Its like anything, just need practice and lots of seat time, I dont think I'd ever be able to say yep i know everything now, there is just soo much to learn with welding I still have heaps to learn.
I picked up the Hollow front sway from a forum member who was parting out there car, I think you can gut it direct from the states for a reasonable price, but im sure you have options locally.
Dweezle here is some more lobster love for you hehe. The last piece of the Intake/ Cold Airbox.
Next made a stainless test pipe, for race purposes only

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Charlie google is your friend, plenty of really good websites to go to. All of the stuff ive posted so far have been self tought, I've only recently taken up a fabrication course specifically for motorsports where im fine tuning areas I lack in. If anyone's keen its probably the best place to go and weld as much as you want and get plenty of seat time. Much cheaper and easier than buying all your own gear and the teacher we have is a machine with the tig with plenty of motorsport knowledge coming from a nascar background.
Ok around the same time i made a CAI for my brothers Turbo NA with a stainless heat sheild around the turbine housing. ( Now sold to Slimx)
Started building a new manifold, kept the same design of the Absurdflow setup that I currently have but dropped from 1.5" to 1.25" Shd 40 pipe. Im just waiting on my new turbo housing .64 (currently .86). My aim is to make the car much more responsive with a nice meaty midrange. Should still be good for around 200rwkw.
Bevelled all edges and gapped for full penetration
Started building a jig for this manifold, marked out then drilled tapped to make clamping the flange down easier.
Finished, also did some small port work on the runners and turbo flange so there's no build up of back pressure with the flange not transitioning properly.
Next ill post some pics of a new manifold im building for my brothers turbo NA, 4-1 merge, unsure of how im going to route it yet its got p/s so probably top mount.
rxmx,

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
How did you weld the collector to the flange, as the flange has a round hole?

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Hey dann, just need to shave a bit off the inside of the flange to make it blend with the merge obviously not taking anything away from the base of the flange. Does that make sense? Ill try and post a pic for you.

You are going to 'port' the flange?

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Maybe wrong terminology, blend is what I mean and just clean up the runners where they meet the head flange.

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Yah gas lens is great, helps get into the really tight spots like inside of a merger collector and stuff.
This is my new setup. Im just waiting on the correct cable for it. Wp-9 flexi with a large diam gas lens and #12 cup. Seems like alot of the fabricators use similar setups with #12 cup for stainless. Really looking forward to using it as im still using a wp26 torch wich is big. I'll be in the market soon for a new welder, been eyeing the everlast 230ex, any thoughts?

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Here you go, just got to upper inside of the flange and took the upper edge off till it met with the merge and then smoothed out without taking too much off the pipe itself,

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
I really like my welder.. Tokentools, owners name is pete and hes a great guy, at gosford.
The inside of the collector looks MUCH nicer than I imagined it would.
You weld 2 pipes together, then cut into those again to merge all 4?

Re: Turbo NA-6.8 Build
Yah its either tokentools or everlast, they both come with 5yrs on them, ill probably just head out and take a closer look at both then decide.
Yep thats correct Dann, weld 2, then cut them again to merge all 4.
