With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

That one was open diff.
It's worth noting though that De Bounce also had an open diff for the same event.
So driving skill makes the biggest difference.
It is brilliant fun to drive, but also extremely challenging due to the lack of grip.

Another great weekend at Deni with some unexpected (and excellent) results on both days.
Good fun, good company and a good trip home.
Got to be happy with that!

+1 to that Bob. The motorkhana was sensational. Bit of a shame there were only 3 '5s there but it was still buckets of fun.

Weird question, how does an MX5 cope on dirt? they're pretty low standard I can't really imagine it been particularly fun...?

Most of the dirt Victorian Motorkhana venues are fairly smooth and when setting the test areas, the organisers will try and avoid any major dips or humps.
Also the MX5 is not the lowest vehicle, that honour goes to a number of specials with sometimes less than 50mm clearance.
As to how well a stock MX5 goes on dirt?
On a dry day I generally get into the top 15.
My results for VMC Rd 2 was a 7th outright in a field of 32.
For Rd 3 of the Deniliquin Autocross Series, I ended up 12 outright in a field of 40 (my focus is Motorkhana, the Autocross is just for fun)
On stock suspension, very occasionally I'll hear something hit underneath however it has never resulted in damage.
Can't say the same after falling of the track at Winton.
Fun
Have a look at some of the video's posted around this thread, I can guarantee every driver will get out of a MX5 with a smile, how long they keep their smile depends on the results.

Re: Victorian Motorkhana Championship 2012
I have a pretty heavily modified example, with turbo coil overs etc and was doing rather well in the NSW series, but they has the final round booked for the same weekend as nationals.
Said round was deleted and replaced by dirt. Making dirt events a necessity to be competitive in the series. So after two rounds I thought I had a chance for picking up a state title and was fairly excited about it, but after the changes, I'm looking for a new challenge.
I'm still looking forward to coming for a play at the nationals, as long as its on tar.

All the State Motorkhana Championships ensure the National Championship is factored into their calendar and ensure nothing clashes.
The Australian Motorkhana Championship or AMC is schedualed for October 13th and 14th at the Willowbank Raceway and will be on bitumen.
I don't see anything in the NSW Motorkhana calendar that clashes!
Hopefully, with a team or two of MX-5's from each state we can have a true MX-5 interstate challenge.
Bring it on!

Re: Victorian Motorkhana Championship 2012
Back in January when I colored in my calendar it was October 14 at Nirimba.
Once I had heard about nationals on that date, I checked the nsw site, and it was moved to November and dirt. Not a big deal. Could have been a typo... Clearly it's fixed now.
I will definatley be up for nationals. Luckily there's a few Tarmac rounds here leading up to it to help get my eye in.
