Nittos
Gday gurus,
After realising that Ozzy overcharged me on my last set of road tyres, and having read some really encouraging( ) reviews of their service I am less than keen to try them again, So I have lodged an enquiry with Taleb. I expect a similar sort of service from there too though.
So a bit of digging and I found Amazon are selling them for 650 a set. Sounds like a win to me.
Anyone ever shipped tyres from amazon? or the US for that matter. What sort of charge am I in for for freight.
Should note, Wanting NT01s in 205/50r15 to SW Sydney

Re: Nittos
Actually I've had very good service from Taleb over a couple of years but their tyres have not been the freshest. 12 to 18 months old seems the norm for r-specs from them. Doesn't worry me much because I tend to fry them before they hit the 3 year mark anyway.
A set of 195/50r15s from Tirerack in the States took about a week to arrive last year and cost me $288 in freight to the far south coast.

Yeah I have had good service from Ozzy over the years, but still think theres a hectic tax in there somewhere.
So with Amazons price plus 288 shipping, its still cheaper than going down the road to Ozzy. Not by heaps, but if I dont need them tomorrow, may as well put the savings towards a better diff.

January 2011, $356 freight on four 225/45x15 from the Tyre Rack. Came from Indiana somewhere and arrived by air freight in less than 10 days.

Re: Nittos
+1 for tirerack, got my Direzzas within a week. They get a lot of orders from Australia so the process is well oiled now.

Re: Nittos
There is a place in sydney, but I forget the name that was recently selling that extact tyre for $199 each. Or $229 each for 225/45R15.Smokinscotty wrote:Gday gurus,

$199 each would be cheaper than the Amazon option once you included shipping I think. Shipping was $80 to me in QLD, so to you would be a heck of alot cheaper, or pick up???
edit// Found them, but none is stock currently... http://stores.ebay.com.au/Tyre-Tech-Onl ... 4340.l2563

Yeah if tyre rack did them, Id be cheering.
Was also contemplating the Hankook TA tyres so I could use TireRack as they have heaps of good feedback, but will but up a creek if it rains. Nittos wont be heaps better, but I will have more confidence.
So lets go!

Re: Nittos
I have bought two sets of Toyo R888s from Taleb Tyres. I think the Toyos and Nittos are similar compounds ???
May 2011 - four 205x50x15 Toyo R888 GGs plus four 15x6.5"rims (bit heavy but good track rims for the price) fitted and balanced with wheel nuts for $1,300 (tyres $225 each). Rang on a Monday afternoon and they were delivered to my house in Canberra on Tuesday afternoon.
Two are worn out after about 9 supersprints, 1 marulan day, 4 hillclimbs and some road use and the other two have another couple of track days on them.
Best at WP was 1.14.5 in a NA6 1600 Class 5M car (compared to previous best of 1.16.2 on Kumho KU36) on their 2nd track day, but this time was matched on their last track day, so good over life of tyres.
May 2012 - four 205x50x15 R888 GGs for $840 picked up (ie $210 per tyre). Rang on Thursday and they put them aside for me (without any request for payment). I arrived to pick them up Friday morning and they offerred to fit and balance for no extra charge. As I only had two rims with me they fitted and balanced them and I was on the road within 30 minutes.
They were very polite and helpfull and interested in what I was using them for. I will certainly use them again.

Re: Nittos
Thanks for your help guys!
Might try local supplied toyos as they look to be good value.
I think the NT01s I were running were just a softer compound thus the high grip, and short lifespan. R888s seem to fit the bill well, or kumhos... Got a week or two to decide, either way tyres are something I have always been hard on, so I expect to go through a few, so a locally distributed tyre would be more logical.
