They are zip tied on AFAIK.

Talking to Alan [Corolla GTi] yesterday and Mark tonight answer is yes, will require two, so it would mean changing them after each run, otherwise i'd say both will record!!

The display units I think, don't quote me, when available will be I think about $200 and you own that, it will show lap time but is optional and not compulsory

These are not to be confused with the 'Dorian' timers that get taped to the side of the car

I have no problem with this being introduced, I just think they should have advised of it much earlier than like 2 weeks out

Numbers are looking great so far, Mark says 26 to date having paid up is well up on previous track days and we could possibly hit over 40 entrants!!

I have to get my NB back to MX5 Plus, seems the handbrake was grabbing the right rear, foul smell of burning brakes!! Alan and I cleared it yesterday and no problems since but also talking to Mark he said that in every MX5 he has owned every one has done it and always right rear!! A new set of calipers will fix the problem, OK to run as is but i'd rather have it fixed - happens when handbrake has been on and everything cools down so next time out starts all over again, currently NOT using the handbrake until it's done

Saw Gussy's NB there today but not sure if he is ready to run, his wheels look awesome!!

Thanks for that link, I wasn't aware!! You know every time I bump into them up at the shopping centre we always have a chat and Win always comments on how i'm going!! She doesn't miss a trick, could always tell me i'd done a PB!! I for one will sure miss them at Lakeside!!

WTF was wrong with the old system? QR is playing this like a typical monopoly. Those ass-clowns need to be schooled about the law of supply & demand.

With technology's exponential growth and affordability, people will simply buy a phone app and/or dedicated self-timing system which will lead to QR having expensive paper-weights.

That I could understand. But that’s the way they are. I don't think planning is something they do best. (Maybe under staff etc...)
But to be honest, I've always found them a friendly bunch. Don't seem to be too hard on any of the cars. Anyone can have a run.
What you lose on the swings, you can pick up on the roundabouts. I've never had a bad day out!
I understand money is an issue for some.

Norwell is always an option, had a great time out there with the MGCCQLD, last time. I'm sure Neil is still wetting himself with laughter. With me doing plenty of circle work in the infield trying to keep up with him.
They (the MGCCQLD) did say it was a lot cheaper than, Lakeside or QLD raceway.
Bloody great little track as well. Seems to suit the little mx5 quite well. Could be an option next year maybe?

In other words, for argument's sake, will you be happy if they hiked up the price to $300 which includes the latest state-of-the-art timing/telemetry?
Even if your answer is yes (I've no idea of how affluent you are), how many other people are willing to fork out that much?
And as for your offer, as much as I would love to take that up, I am currently back in gainful employment after a 10month sabaticcal so have to kindly decline.

I understand your comment about back in 2009 or so and it being $90 - I wasn't around until early 2010

But what I do know is the current cost of track hire at both locations and the impact of that in relation to entry fees covering same. My ONLY argument is simply the time factor in letting the Club know about the new timing transponders to the Club's Competition Secretary and all I did last night was pass that on thru this forum as 'required information'

If we have to have them and they are accurate, not a problem - all I have done is address a few points that no doubt if you read back have already been raised and that most I am unable to answer. Obviously the transponder has to be attached and NOT like the 'Dorian' which appears to be taped to the side of the car, and no doubt it can't be 'permanent' on some cars due the the fact quite a few have multiple drivers, so one 'out' and another 'in'. So one of my questions will be 'how big is it and how do we attach?'

Given the increase in track hire charges, and increase of some $35 [based on, as you say, $90 then and current $125] from 2009 to 2012 isn't too bad, try my train fares that have risen 100% in the same time!

Anyway, are you running? If so then see you there! As usual I won't be fast but I will be having fun!!

Would there be any options for clubs to own timing equipment where they could see a potential return on the costs?
(avoid the next event being $90-$60 etc)
- hire to non-member
- anything else that could be dreamt up cover the outlay...

Only problem I see is that when we run, everyone runs!! We have trouble getting volunteers to do the flag points so I can't see how we would ever get additonal to do timing, It's now just one of those things we have to accept

To be truthful, I see no problem with the transponders and also in the additional 'in-car lap display' that can also be used from the pits, that part is still to come and will be, from what I am told, optional for around $200. Given the cost of 'in-car' timers that I have seen and their cost, $200 would be a good investment - my personal thoughts

I mentioned earlier there have been a few timing problems over the past 2 years or so, the first track day I ran was September 2010, they taped the strip onto the windscreen and the system failed! No lap times available for the first two runs, never been used since at QR that I am aware BUT will stand correction on that

When 35 or so entrants are competing that's fine and is always encouraged, but then as I see it, looking back over the past two Lakeside sprints, the flag marshalls have been the partners of those competing, very generous indeed of them and Chris & Wendy who handle the pit lane exit do a wonderful job as volunteers, heaven help us if they were not there!!

Timing equipment would not be cheap, for accuracy it would have to be electronic and there would have to be someone to control it, not an easy exercise! If you reverted to stop watches, the accuracy goes right out the window!!

I believe a different system is used at Wakefield Park, perhaps 'Guran', should he read this, could let us know the method in use there

The MGCCQLD had there timing system set up at Norwell, there was at least 4 people in the control box, with laptops,PC....
Plugs wires etc. Didn't look like fun at all.
I can see why people don't want to cough up the cash, nor happy about it. But it is there bat and ball. At least you can hire it for the day.

Has anyone found out is this system going to work for in car timing at all events at qr lakeside
If I can have in car timing on race days for 280 that's cheap
