Heater? I actually had it on last night! Cruised to get milk and a coffee and a lot colder than I thought! Beanie will go over my helmet and perhaps will wear ugg boots!!

Ipswich can get very cold this time of the year but who cares? :D

Only 15 more sleeps to go!

EVERYONE

Well done so far! I have just spoken with our Competition Secretary and to date he has received 26 entries, far more than when compared to 2 weeks out from any other previous track day!! :D

He will be sending out a 'General Broadcast' email message shortly [perhaps tonight] regarding some changes QR have made and only just informed him of, this mainly relates to using a transponder which you either buy or rent on the day and it attaches to your car for accurate timing to five [5] decimal places. QR wants this running by 21 May and for all events, not just the MX5 Club. In addition to this will be coming a display unit that you can have either in your pit or mounted in the car that will display each lap time. Every unit is individual to only the person who it is registered to, so he has raised with them the fact we have cars that run multiple drivers. This syytem will also be in use at Lakeside Park [not sure of it's implementation date there] and is being offered and encouraged Australia wide

If you have paid your entry fee but are unsure if Mark has your email address, flick him an email to compsecmx5@miata.net.au

Thanks

Part of the entry fee we pay goes towards the cost of the time keepers. Are those people now redundant and, if so, will the timing component be refunded to offset the unknown hire cost of the transponders? Are these Dorian timers?

That I can't answer, but from what I have gathered talking to Alan [Corolla GTi] yesterday they are NOT a 'Dorian', it's a new thing that John Tetley has organised and been testing that he hopes will be in use at every track in Australia

The transponder is mounted at the front of the car, I assume from what Alan was saying under the bonnet and not on the side like a 'Dorian', the rest is as said in my previous post

If I get a chance tomorrow I will call in and see Kevin & Win, they are the timekeepers at Lakeside and most of QLD and have been doing it for over 50 years, live maybe 2 minutes from me!

I said to Mark my concern was that people be aware they will have to have an additonal $80 with them on the day, whether to purchase outright or even to 'rent' for the day, as that is also $80 with $60 refundable on return after the meet. Further, I gather it will do away with timekeepers but no doubt someone has to be there!! Not sure on lap sheets and all that stuff! The second part being the display unit for lap times isn't quite ready yet and not sure on the price for that, but it's optional I have gathered

Mark has only just found out and is preparing a 'General Broadcast' email to everyone, so if someone doesn't receive it they can PM me with their email and I will forward, or maybe you can 'copy' the contents of the email to this thread/topic/whateverucallit!!

Thanks JBT, hope that answers, but no doubt still questions to ask - I only spoke with Mark at 7pm tonight, 78 mins ago!!

Thanks Roger. This sounds like another one of those "oh, by the way" things that QR have a habit of coming up with. Less than two weeks notice of a cost increase such as this is appalling...IMHO

Agree totally!! I was somewhat 'bowled over' that they have only just told Mark that this is how it will be, my main concern being someone who actually turns up on the day and to be confronted with that, not everyone carries a 'bank vault' with them, as you are well aware an MX5 has ZERO towing capacity!

No, I am aware also that quite a few run to a budget for the year and not a lot of notice to say 'YOU MUST PAY THIS IF YOU RUN'

Like I said, I will have a talk if possible to Kevin & Win tomorrow, but all this has done is give false readings now on the Blood Pressure Monitor I am currently wearing for 24 hours!! Interesting to see if there is a spike upwards when they download the data!! It goes off and does it's job every 30 minutes. Nice to be all cabled up like the office floor for 24 hours, not permitted to shower and if I roll over on it i'm sure I will do myself an injury! Better sleep standing up! :?

Scenario: One car and three drivers, and only three groups running, so as well as a driver change and number change, pop the bonnet and change transponders, wonder how they attach? As mentioned before, the transponder will only record for the person it is registered to

Digressing, great to see both Peter & Brenda having a run :D , while Mark informs me his car is currently out of action after the last meet :frown:

WTF was wrong with the old system? QR is playing this like a typical monopoly. Those ass-clowns need to be schooled about the law of supply & demand.

With technology's exponential growth and affordability, people will simply buy a phone app and/or dedicated self-timing system which will lead to QR having expensive paper-weights.

Antiquated to say the least!

At our last Lakeside meeting, there were two glaring errors, two drivers that managed according to times, to have been in the 1.02's, and taking nothing away from them, their previous bests were 1.05' and 1.06's

Also at Lakeside last Sunday week, you can check on 'www.natsoft.com.au' for Sunday 29 April, two x Subaru Libertys both managed sub 60 sec laps, I was there watching them run nose to tail each lap like clockwork yet both recorded those laps at a different time and if you look futher to the individual laps for each, bests were well above that. At the time they were supposed to have done those laps I was up at the 'bus stop' watching them in particular - maybe it is right but I and others say no way

You may notice also on 'natsoft' that sometimes lap times are two decimal places, or to the 1/100th and others are four decimal places or to the 1/10,000th [I think thats right!!] My assumption is they do both 'stop watch' and also 'electronic' timing but I haven't actually been upstairs to see how the 'stop watch' method is actually done

We have also, on occasions, found that the timing system has failed for one reason or another, this happened at my first QR meeting back in 2010

Maybe it is time for a change and to progress but surely give people some time and don't just hit the with it 2 weeks out - like i said earlier I heard about it yesterday so was aware it was coming but never assumed this quickly and that it would be the ONLY timing method

You running?
