who uses kumho's?

There’s a variety comments in the one thread above, so I‘ll throw in my 20 cents worth.

Chris, I’m running V70A’s and as the others have said, they’re at the pointy end of all the Supersprint class but if you are doing door to door racing why not go to slicks like everyone else? Why penalise yourself before you turn a wheel? Slicks would be 1 to 2 seconds a lap quicker than R-specs around Wakefield.

Smokinscotty, I don’t think the V70A’s would be a good choice for motorkhana as you won’t get the tyre up to its operating temperature. I struggle at the track to get the rears up to 60 degrees so you wouldn’t have a hope in hell around the cones. Have a look at Hoosiers instead.

I can’t comment on the Nitto NT01’s performance as I’ve never used them and as they don’t come in a 225x45x16, I won’t get to try them out.

My feeling on which R-Specs though would be similar to the slick comment above.
If you are into motorsport and want to put down the best times possible, then you need to have a tyre that’s compatible to the weight, power and handling capabilities of your car and your budget. You need to look at what the quick guys are running and not try and invent the wheel again. So V70A’s or Yokohama Advan A050’s would be my choice. Advan’s will last longer but cost more to start with.

If you’re on a tight budget and into motorsport to enjoy the thrill of racing around the track with your mates and not too concerned with being up front, then you really need to look at S-Spec’s (KU36, StarSpec) or endurance road racing tyres (Michelin Pilot Super Sport). Sure you sacrifice a couple of seconds per lap but you’ll still be using the same ‘low’ cost tyres for a couple of seasons and having fun at the same time rather than forking out $1500+ every 6 track days.

Well I went back to sandown, and after getting 1:31.6 two weeks ago on the old v70's. I managed a 1:28.8 on the new nitto's. They are an awesome tyre, and half the price almost. I did a 1:36 on s spec tyres there when the running gear was in the original shell.

Charlie B - Id love to go slicks however as the car is a road car too, and I dont have spare rims, I wont be able to enjoy a weekend drive!

leaning towards the V710's although I just hopoe it isnt a wet track day when I go next haha

Hey Lightyear, where did you get the Nittos from?

Didn't think they were imported into Australia, and from US/CDN sites, the price is not terribly off the prices for V700s.. At 1/2 price almost, I'd be interested in giving them a go, esp. since they are still made as 225/45/15s and the V700s aren't..

@evil_weevil - you aren't going to be driving the V710s on the road / wet either.. :lol:

none of these tyres would be cheap enough to go on a weekend drive with.. and yes, I think Nitto is the American company that gets tyres manufactured by Toyo... (but could be just making it up).. :oops:

Ozzy tyres sold me my nittos, but cant find them on their site, maybe give them a buzz.

I recently put some street nittos on my car at $100 a corner fitted balanced tax inclusive. Not NT01s but good street tyres.

Thanks guys... looked up ebay and a set pf NT01s in 225/45/15s is $650/-... shipping probably $200/-, so that's a LOT cheaper than the v700s are. I'll probably go for those when I change tyres.. Looking forward to Lightyear's updates on the tyre life :lol:

Noted on Ozzy, but I'm happy with the KU31s for the street so far; they have decent wet grip and seem to wear well. My previous experience with Ozzy was bodgy enough that I don't care to try them again, regardless of the savings.

I use the V70a they are a great tyre and perform well till almost worn out.

Slicks are a better option if you can afford to by a new set after every 2 meetings, slicks just drop off performance too quickly.

ordered the v70a's as the v710's have run out in my size.

some of the superTT/MRA racers are selling second hand slicks or have contacts for second hand ones, so will see what I can find to give slicks a go!

Nice one, I got offered a set of 195/50r15 V70s with a about 30 laps In the wet on them.
Now I'm on the hunt for a set of rims for them. Think I've found a set for 400 brand new.
Don't think my 15x8s with 195/50 semis is going to work out to well. Lol

Funnily enough tyres are offered by a mra competitor

Between his fuel bill(+oil lately) and tyres, each ride is rather expensive!
