Hehe thanks guys, I love how the key turned out.
It's a good thing I didn't have people over for the first start Basically this is what happened:
I connected everything up with the spark plugs removed to turn the engine over and get some oil pressure.
When I turned the key the starter solenoid clicked once and then the whole car went dead; ECU, gauges, everything.
I checked the fuses and they were all fine, but still the car was dead
I tightened the battery clamps but it was still dead.
Then I removed the positive clamp from the battery for about 10 minutes and reconnected it... everything works again... weird
I tried to turn it over once more with exactly the same effect.
After lunch I reconnected the battery positive to have one more go and it cranked perfectly on the starter.
The injectors were firing and everything sounded good so I reconnected the spark leads
Here's the weird part, now I have no spark at all. When I push the 'Pulse ign' buttons in the ECU software it does nothing, where just yesterday it used to make a good looking spark.
I've tested connectivity between all wires and it's all still good, no burnt out wires or shorts.
Basically I've somehow fried either the coil, all the BIP-373 chips in the ignitor or the ECU's ignition circuit. I think it's unlikely to be the coil because the BIP's would have been destroyed long before that happened, and the ECU functions perfectly apart from not generating a spark so I think it's unlikely to be that.
So, somehow I've destroyed the ignitor chips (unless someone knows another reason why isn't working) and I can't start it until I get some more

Re: Andrew's '93 NA6 - KL V6 swap
OK, so a massive update! I found out the ignitors weren't working because I had bent the pins a bit too much and a couple had come loose from the chip . Rather than ordering some more from the US and waiting until they arrived I found out that heaps of Mitsubishi's including Magnas use a Bosch BIM-034 single channel dumb ignitor. One trip to pick and payless and I had 3 of them.
Once I wired them up I had some weird issues (spark causing ECU to reset and fuel pump to prime and all sort of weirdness) but that turned out to be because I had only one spark plug plugged into the wasted spark coil for testing. Once I put two spark plugs in it worked perfectly... AND THEN IT STARTED!!!!!!!!!
FINALLY, it's alive.

Re: Andrew's '93 NA6 - KL V6 swap
Great result! Did you pick up anything else interesting at Pick n Payless?
Are there any interesting new cars arrived there for picking?
It's good to know that some things are interchangeable to the MX5. Someone I was in touch with recently used Magna front calipers on a hot Mirage (a stealth Lancer track car!), because the Magna calipers were a parts-bin upgrade almost as large as the early Evo (standard/non Brembo) caliper.
Some people use a combo of FC RX7 and Ford Probe bits, too.
Maybe you picked up a spare V6 from another Mazda?
Keep an eye out for Ford's local Capri Clubsprint.
Some decent bits to pick from one of those. Much nicer than the first ones, at least.
Thanks for the videos; is that it or do you have a few more tricks up your sleeve?

Re: Andrew's '93 NA6 - KL V6 swap
Thanks guys, I'm so relieved it actually started. It's a huge milestone, hopefully it won't be long before it's roadworthy.
Lol, no skids until I make a dry sump setup I'm not sure I want to take it to the track. The sump is tiny and I *really* don't want to destroy the engine.
Thanks Bizi, I basically got to pick n payless, went straight for the mitsubishi area to get the bits I needed and then left. I didn't check for anything else as I had to be back for uni.
I think once the car is finished I might buy a long block to make a dry sump setup out of the car which I can quickly install once it's done. The sump it has at the moment should be fine for on the road but I'm not so sure it has enough capacity for track work.
That's all the videos I have at the moment, tomorrow I'm going to try to sort the air leak so I might make another video if I can get it to idle properly. Once I've done that the main things left are to join the front and rear sections of the exhaust, make a few brackets, clean up the wiring and finish off the intake and filter enclosure. *I just remembered I also have to find a Nopro washer bottle or make my own, the filter is going to go where the original was.
Also my slave cylinder is leaking again so I've ordered a replacement.

Re: Andrew's '93 NA6 - KL V6 swap
If making your own, can I buy one from you too?
I figure if you're able to master it in aluminium, you'd be able to sell a few here, too.
Just a suggestion in case it's interesting enough for you.
I bet that there are occasionally some useful cars there, in terms of interesting bits.
Thanks again for the upatres!

Awesome work Andrew, and congrats!
Those parts you need from me should be available by Sunday next week. Drop me a line and let me know if/when you want to come get them.

Andrew,
This page might be useful re. your nopro need.
http://revlimiter.net/blog/2011/02/nopro-washer-bottle/
Using a standard Suzuki part and some mounting bits.
An aluminium one would be much better looking, though!
