Re: KU 31 vs KU36
how fast you go thru the kink?
on a side note, 15x7 6ULs are $20 cheaper than when 1st released. think i might have to get some bronze ones.

project
Flat out thru the kink on the main straight, that's taken over a year to get the courage for that, and i lift off into the kink onto the main straight, next time I won't!!
I have total confidence in the 36's and the guys at Option 1 were quite surprised when they saw the original fronts that had done 16,000km and 325 track laps! The centre tread depth is almost the same as new and the outsides are hardly worn! Next time you see me in the NA, check them out on the rear of it
JBT, I watch more so the tacho and convert, using only 3rd and 4th I know 20kph in 3rd/1000 and 25kph/1000 in 4th, or thereabouts!
I rememeber my first run at Lakeside and for some dumb reason down the main straight i turned the radio up to listen to 4BC!! How dumb!! Now it's a quick glance at 'Harry' to check the lap time which flashes just as I enter the kink on the main straight!! I even wave at the flaggies coming out of Karasel!! U gotta be friendly and they do a great job!!
If you mount a camera in the middle of the boot you can see the rev counter if angled OK, so you know what your doin gong thru various corners

KU 31 vs KU36
Should put up a photo of the tyres zero, my KU36's looked pretty munched after 10,000's and a few track days. But then again, I'm rough as behind the wheel!
Apu: Mine are R16/215/45 I think. Definitely sure about the 16" bit.
Might try out star specs next time since the 36's which used to cost 150 a corner go for 180+ now!

On the KU31 vs KU36 discussion that’s been done many times before, I previously have said that I’d chatted with the national Kumho rep who said that the NSW Police had tested both tyres on their Highway Patrol cars and decided that the KU31 was the best tyre to suit their needs. It provided more consistent, predictable grip under varying conditions than the KU36.
Sure you’ll have better grip at the track with the KU36 under dry conditions but in the real world where most of us drive 99% of our time, the KU31 is a better option.
In the end you’ll find it far cheaper (and more fun) to get another set of rims and fit dedicated track tyres rather than run your road tyres.
Time to step up to an R Spec tyre boys. V70A's are $323 a corner but 2 seconds a lap quicker.

Re: KU 31 vs KU36
I recall that and considered that point, however one of the reasons I swapped to KU36s completely was that for me, it was "the best compromise" given I didn't want to:
1. keep swapping wheels or
2. have a set of R-specs sit in my garage beyond its "useful life"
3. go beyond my capabilities at this stage...which would likely happen on a set of R-specs now
Plus I figured that I wouldn't be driving hard on the streets, unlike the cops in a pursuit, I would (hopefully) not get into trouble with the 36s on the street.
I figured 12-18mths on the 36s...I'd be in a better position to decide 36s permanently or go back to 31s and a set of R-specs.

Re: KU 31 vs KU36
Have you thought about a set of Star Specs from Tire Rack? I believe they'd work out to be <$200/corner, at least. I've been quoted for a set of wheels and tyres from them, or wheels alone, so using those quotes as a guide to estimate the cost of Star Specs alone at closer to $170/corner.

If you'd ordered on day 1 you probably would have had them, or even still could ;)

Re: KU 31 vs KU36
Too late now. Anyway, I'll run through this set of 36s and decide if I will stick with them or run two sets of tyres.
