Re: MX5 vs BRZ vs 86
2WD 86 looks more fun than the 4WD BRZ.
Good to see the older NC MX5 hangin' in there - just think how good an ND would be with a bit more grunt. I'd love to see how a supercharded NC would have fared in this race (I'm assuming that was a standard NC since my Japanese is limited to "Hai", "Kamikaze" and "Banzai!").

BRZ is not AWD. It is 2WD (rear) the same as the 86. They are identical save the trim differences and badging.

I thought 2WD vs 4WD was going to be the differentiator between the Toyota and Subaru?
In the video, the 86 was a lot more tail happy than the BRZ which I assumed was because it only had 2WD vs the BRZ's 4WD.
Maybe I need to read up on them some more.
Still don't like the look of them, their design looks too "try-hard", I prefer something more classic/timeless and under-statedly sexy like my SE/MSM.

Nope. The only difference is badges and trim level.

Either a difference in set-up of 86 vs BRZ, or the driver's approach to the corners (eg. trail braking).

Yeah i read somewhere Subaru has setup the brz to be more "neutral" whereas Toyota has gone for more tail happy oversteer.

Yep, they subaru chose a more mild setup so as not to shock subaru drivers with the 'new' rear wheel drive system.
This is the major difference between the two.

It was Keiichi Tsuchiya, aka "drift king", driving the 86 so it could well be the driver's approach!

Considering the power difference to the 5, the little roadster did very well. If it had the same power it definately would have been in for a shot. Had to laugh though when old mate in the Subi missed a gear, he was really beating himself up about it
