Glass rear window NA6 ? and demister switch ?

Postby Basho » Fri Apr 27, 2012 11:56 am

My softop is the origional in excellent condition as is the rear soft perspex but after getting fogged in today and still waiting for my aircon bits to arrive I'm thinking a bit of an upgrade on the ole rear windy might be helpfull.

Does anyone know where --or indeed if-- I can get a glass rear window softop section with demister for an NA6 from ?

Also the car has the demister plug thingo in the rear in but no demister switch on the dash where does it go, I'm guessing next to the instrument lighting dimmer and that the wires plugged into the non functioning blanks already there are for the demister ?
,
I'd be greatfull for any advice :D

Dude,

I found this online, but it's very expensive.

It would be cheaper to get a new top with a rear glass window.

Thanks for that-- quite funny, 50 quid more than thier own complete new soft top -and it's secondhand , I think I've seen a complete new softop with hard window for around 400 quid , no wonder the UKs diving into another recession no one can afford to buy anything.

Hope the rain stops or my aircon bits arrive , I wont be hooking a glass one if thats the go price wise

If it was me I would purchase the complete soft top and frame from a NB (1998-2004). MX5mania had one of a 2001 that they were parting out for $650. I know of a Mazda wrecker here in Melb that has (or had now) one for $750.

The benefit is that it will be must easier/quicker to fit. You will get the better frame and later on if you need to replace the soft top due to general wear and tear it will be easier to the fit the new soft to the frame that was designed for it.

Plus the cost is reduced by being able to sell the old frame and top if both are still in good order.

(and assuming somebody wants an NA top at the time)

Also Mania has an NB top of ebay, it was at $1 last time I checked.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Thanks for that , I think I have the wiring in place with both the dummy switches left and right of the instrument dimmer carrying what seems to be a full compliment of wiring and plugs (1x blue and 1x black) and a plug at the rear which is good , fingers crossed  .
