Yah both have pros/cons, stainless is a purer metal, nicer to weld as there's less crap in it but is a bitch to cut/shape ans needs to be back purged. Mild is better with heat cycles but needs to be coated and if done properly would cost about the same as a stainless non coated.

I'm sure with those you would be able to significantly reduce your flooding problems with some drainage and building the entry to the garage up a bit.

Haha.

It used to just come in through the side doorway only when the drain running past it overflowed from heavy rain, now it seems to seep in through the back wall. I might get some expandafoam, or alternatively my mums BF is a tiler and gets CRATES of silicone for free and currently has thousands of tubes.
Might grab a few boxes (say 40 tubes) and go nuts.

Also, I started my sprinter yesterday and it ran great... Wasnt expecting that.

Joe reports to me just now that he is going to restrict the oil to the turbo just a little more before the proper tune.

It had a road tune today and is spooling some boost starting at 2000rpm.
He has it set to 7 psi and is glad to report it pulls very smoothly and very strongly.

I keep pestering him for all the negative feedback he can give, His tuner is a friend of his who tunes the SR20s at PowerTune.

So far hes been very impressed with how it all works, giving me the feedback that the lack of a suitable restricter in the turbo is a slight oversight. The oil feed line is not quite a small enough diameter to restrict it enough unfortunately.

Hes very happy with the 3 inch exhaust and dump and appreciates the use of V Bands for quality and race reliability.

Now I want to see two things:
1. Video, and
2. This car at the next Sugarloaf meet. :D

This weeks project is making my garage more workshop like, with a better, dedicated, standing welding area, with a proper welding table, made of 8mm steel plate. Its 1 square metre, plenty for everything I want.

This allows me to use the far right table in the photos exclusively for mechanical work, while the back wall section of the new bench, which has the headers on it will have the vice, linisher, grinder, drop saw, and air tools on it.
The left part of the L shaped bench which is almost totally unbuilt with just some braces hanging limp off the wall will be a welding only area.
The back wall bench will be 3m long and the left wall bench will be 2.4m long.
The knee height braces will Hold a shelf, which on the left will house my welder and its accessories on top with the air compressor underneath. The far left of that part, right next to the engine shelf will have the 8mm steel plate tabletop with 20cm of overhang off the front and left edge, to allow clamping of work and to let me work on it from 2 angles.

This will allow me to take my fabrication work a bit more seriously.

The tabletop is solidcore external doors (30mm solid timber) with a gal sheet nailed to it to keep it clean.

Ive just thrown out HEAPS of stuff, to give me the room to do this.

Very excited. Ill update as its finished in the next few days and then its new tool shopping time me thinks.

And horrible panorama time....!!!!

Also it looks like Im doing another setup in the coming weeks. T28 based, 1.8L, and faster than an SP. I told him that thats hardly a challenge and to set his sights higher haha.

Ill do a build diary on that one also, and it should come together rather quickly.

Dont go E85 and low comp. Choose one or the other.

250rwkw is a good goal. 200 odd isnt that hard really.

You will want a 2871, tubular manifold, big intercooler (when I say big I just mean larger than say, dweezles) 3'' exhaust, 6 speed, 1.8 diff,
ID1000s, clutch, ecu (megasquirt, seriously) Fuel pump, intake manifold will make it a lot easier, port job, reroute, big radiator, ducts, and toyota COPS, oil pump solution, oil cooler.

Thats basically the list.

Not so bad. Probably 8k.

Gearbox and diff 2k.
2871 manifold and dump 2.5k
Megasquirt and tuning 1.5k
Injectors 0.5k
Cooling 1k
2k for the rest.

Somewhere around there.

Rock up to the monthly newcastle mx5 meet for a chat!

6 speed and torsen including axles and driveshaft (it is an NA6) is probably closer to 3 grand... unless you find some bargains.

Torsen and all components wont cost more than 700.

Leaves 1300 for 6 speed which is easy.

Hey Dan, wow what an insane thread.
Ive just quickly read through it, and feel like I've absorbed so much info. It's super informative for guys like me, with basic mechanical knowledge, although tbh at times you and other guys on this thread are literally speaking another language. I feel as if I've learnt more in the past 15mins than during my final year of school!

Anyway, I look forward to learning more so keep it up!!
