Those mounting feet would never be CAMS legal either. The mounting bolts are to close together.
I wonder why the feet in the boot dont have the leg joining it in the centre? Seems odd to have it right on the corner of the foot.
Also looks like the main hoop is only half supported? Is the footing it is on sticking out in to thin air with the hoop half over the car body and half off?
The HD bars seem to be well tested in some very big accidents though.
I would love to see a bar that is less of a compromise. Something that still fits in the standard soft and hard tops (up to you to get 50mm under it) but has a main hoop that goes to the floor and rear stays to the boot floor.

I'm yet to see a photo of a roll-bar which has failed. Even this bar with no back-bracing at all seems to have survived a roll-over.

I saw pics of that too. I'm guessing it is mounted to the floor and to the seatbelts.

I have never seen that either but then if there was a case of one failing I would not expect to see anyone rushing to take or release images.

I have been runnning an MX5plus single diagonal for a while now. When I installed it the first thing i noticed was that hitting small bumps in the road appeared to shake the car less.
I recently went through Regency and asked about having a roll bar and i was told that I can get through with plenty of mods like that as long as i have an engineers signed off for it.
When i first installed it I did ask an engineer about it and i was told that for him to pass it it would not be allowed to interfere with the seatbelt in any way, and this includes using the mounting points.
I will put it back on soon and will check if it does actually make a difference or if it was in my head.
+you will notice the weight difference, but as previously mentioned it is similar to running a full tank over 1/4 tank.

FFS pissed off well good.. fabricated my own rollbar with a single diagonal.. checked-rechecked everything a million times except the base of the diagonal and now the NB glass roof rubs against it going up and down. luckily i havent put any holes into the parcel shelf so i can adjust it a few mms forward tomorrow.

made from 3mm tube i had laying around. All up it weighs 13kgs. Might just sell/give it to someone with a plastic rear window and make another one that will fit properly.

Interesting. The second picture suggests the vertical part of the hoop is well inside the shoulder of the seat, is this so, or just the angle of the picture? How is the hoop secured to the car?
Also, next time I would suggest you move the joint of the diagonal as far out to the side of the hoop as feasible.

pretty damn hard knocks though, I reckon the camera wasn't secured tightly. Camera mounts aren't made to withstand those sorts of fources!!!

A few years ago I had to take my NA6 through ACT rego with a B-D bar fitted. They accepted it on the proviso it had roll-bar padding on all areas that could be hit by a body part.
Conversley, I have heard of a number of cases where an ACT authorised inspector would not pass a car fit for transfer of rego with a roll over bar fitted and insisted they be removed. If fact when I sold the NA6 mentioned above it had to have the B-D bar removed before being passed for rego by an authorised inspector - go figure !!!
Once again personal interpretation seems to be the norm.
Personally I will not run a soft top on the track without roll-over protection (and preferably a race seat and harness) - must be getting soft in my old age !!!
If I am on a track I am trying as hard as I can and the possibility of a big off is always there.
Breaking a right hand rear axle and losing the rear wheel on my RX7 at full attack through turn 1 of Eastern Creek gave me a big reality check of what can happen - only the good luck of the loose wheel jamming under the body, giving it something to slide on, saved me from a monumental accident.
I run a NA6 with B-D roll bar, hard top and a couple of Mania underbody braces and it feels much stiffer and more responsive to me - and when your approaching 60 being stiff and responsive cannot be taken for granted !!!!!.

Had to lol. Took my 5 out to the drifts at EC tonight, after a lengthy explanation about how my BD bar is Cams approved as long as I'm not driving it, which posed no issue for me, I was well aware this would be the case. Having the hardtop on they let me run.
The chief scrutineer recommended that I bolt on a box section steel addition on the top of the cage to make it legit. He drew a picture with his fingers of a square shape and said that will be perfect.
Regardless I had a blast!
