I have always thought the Mazda mzr 23 turbo engine from the MPS would be a great conversion.

Sorry guys you're forgetting one real important point with the NC engine, turbo charging and RHD MX5s.
Im sure it would be the same in a NA as the NC, the turbo won't clear the steering shaft.
Pick another engine with the exhaust ports on the passenger side.
Who said anything about turbocharging it?
An NA with the NC 2L engine, even stock, would be quite special

That's the smart way.

All the brains in Japan have only come up with a rear mounted turbo sitting in front of the last muffler, but if you have the answer I expect the all the RHD country's NC owners will be beating down your door to get one.

It's not in an NC engine bay..... however I don't think anything is an impossible task. I've seen turbo conversions engineered and put in very tight places.
Challenge layed out, who's got an NC as a donor car?

Cheers

Re: Fitting the Commodore V6 S/C into the NA
Hi Guys thank you for your input.
Why a LY6?
At 171kw [flywheel] standard and with 250kw easily reached with no internal changes, why not!
The old LY6 has proven to be a far more reliable unit than the LS1. Mazda engines are fair at best when tuned to 250kw with weenie torque.
Cars in the US and A run low 12's/high 11's with the LS1 @ similar kws.
Handling with the conversions done in the states [inc Ford cast V8] shows to be fair, and this is just a street car, I have had lots of turbo cars and done many conversions [it's my job], this is something different.
As for fuel useage, could not care!
I have half stripped the donor Commodore, chasing up someone to redo the ECU to do away with the BSM and speedo requirement etc
I hope to get cracking soon, depending on the workshop work load

Start a build thread. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's interesting and different.

Re: Fitting the Commodore V6 S/C into the NA
I'm keen to see it Steve!
A friend of mine has recently put one of these engines into an old Hilux and it's such a great engine compared to the junk the car came with. Loads more power with much better economy!

Re: Fitting the Commodore V6 S/C into the NA
My choosing the L67 was due to it being a very compact engine, very reliable even when pushed well up power wise [we see units over 400,000k on original engines]. Weight is similar to the LS1 which has been fitted and worked well. The donor car cost me $1850 of which I have salvaged 1/2 to cars we were repairing. The poor MX5 goes ok, what budget would I need to get into the 12's with a Mazda engine? Using the commode diff, balance should be close to 50/50 as the yanks get close with the Winsor or LS1's. I can't find anyone who has tried this as most yankie 3.8's are FWD, so this is no suprise. Legality is not an issue. Minor mods will see 225kw with 300kw [flywheel] achieved around Oz with stock or near stock internals, thats cheap power!
