Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
I have finished the order, and have all 4 doors and both bonnets in my ute ready to take down for packaging. The doors weigh 1.8kg's finished. And the bonnets weigh 2.8kg's finished. So both doors and the bonnet weigh less than an oem alloy bonnet.
I also recieved my new enginemounts today.

Those engine mounts are awesome. I have a set fitted in my SP, the low rev vibrations are increased but the shifting has increased 100%. Cannot miss a gear now
You actually get used to the vibrations, they will soften after about 500kms.

AWR Engine mounts, cheapest price I found was thru Bill @ Miataroadster (forum sponsor)
They are not for the faint hearted though.

I got them from goodwin racing. They arrived in a few days. I ordered coils from adelaide and some other bits from 949racing. This is the only delivery, beating the aussie sender for the coils.

And i am going to mould the inner frame rear section of the NB bonnet so the bonnet can be bolted to the hinges like normal. The rest i will make with lightweight corecell frame. Meaning you must use bonnet pins on the front. You can then remove the big heavy bonnet catch from behind the bumper saving more weight.

Thanks for the videos, there is another Brendan uploaded of the fastest lap from 2 weeks ago on the kumhos overlaid onto the fastest lap with the new nitto's.
And you have not updated your sandown time in your sig.

You get that a lot when you share the track with other types of cars, particularly high powered cars dríven by those less skillful.
Here is the comparison between the old Kumhos and the new Nitto's:

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
You have done a great job of getting the sync exactly right. I went over the data from the weekend and the fastest lap in the video has not got the fastest corner speeds of the day - it has a few, but not all. Front straight was 177.2. Best was 180.4 top speed.
1st corner apex speed was 100.3. Best was 105.1. I must have come out of the corner faster, even tho the apex speed was lower, as the top speed on the short straight to turn 2 was highest of the day - 133.5.
After turn 2 to turn 4 was fastest of the day. Reached just over 100 at the braking point to turn 4, and apex speed was 69.4.
Back straight top speed was close to best with 179.9. Only bettered when I slipstreamed a mini race car. Speed was 183.2, but on the graph the speed was higher from half way up the straight. Pity he didn't get around the corners quicker as it set me up for fast lap.
Top of the hill apex speed was 146.8. Best was 151. The last corners are faster too. I will get the data from the kumhos next for a comparison.

Nice to have data to prove the whole "slow in fast out" works.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
I was going to keep the fastback a surprise for p.i. But now that i found out my aero will put me into open class, i am now changing the car to fit into modified class.
So this is the fastback i made to get some data on.
And i made a vented bonnet.
Won't be using these anymore for the mx5 club rounds. But can still use them in the state clubsprints.
