Hard top Striker plate mounts

Just thinking about mounting the side striker plates on our NB8B to accommodate the hard top we've just acquired. I obviously have to drill holes in the plastic fairing inside the cockpit to get access to the captive nuts, but is it only holes I have to drill, or do I need to cut out the oval shape that seems to be moulded into the back of the striker plates so they can mount flush? Hope I've explained myself properly, but if anyone has a photo of the area where the striker plates have been removed, this would give me a better idea of what I have to do (apart from repainting the red hardtop silver or black) or, is there anyone is Tassie with a silver or black hard top that wants to swap for red???????

Yeah you need to cut out a rounded square shape to fit that moulded part as you say. You will need to cut more than you think (it's deceptive) so that they sit flush but do it a little at a time (examining carefully where it's still hitting) so you don't cut too much.

Pics from my na6, I gotta get a Hard top & striking plates at one point. These are factory holes too.....I swapped my original hole-less covers for my mates pre cut panels witch he was selling his car without the hard top. :mrgreen:

If you take the panel off and look on the back I seem to remember there being a template moulded into it.

Or just don't use the side clamps, the top is perfectly secure and watertight without them.

That seems to be a receipe for disaster!!!

How so?

It's clamped at the front, and also held on with the rear clips.

As long as both your clamps and the rear clips are in good condition it won't move.

Mine's been without side clamps for about 2 years now, it's not come loose or anything even during motorkhanas etc.

Pam's doesn't have the side latches either, and it's been like that even longer (plus, her car wears the hardtop full time since she's got no softtop)

Mines the same no side plates, and has seen Wakefield park without any dramas with it's previous owner and on motorways it doesn't move at all...
