Nb8a Exhaust Mods

Postby Zcootz » Fri Apr 13, 2012 1:30 am

Had a chat with the local exhaust specialist regarding my NB. I'm looking to give her a bit more if an aggressive note without making the car unpleasant to the driver. He's suggested replacing the rear muffler with a resonator. It seems like a reasonable way to go. Has anyone here done this ? Any views? I don't have the budget to put on a
mega-dollar rear system.
With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

Depending on the resonator he's referring to it will be different.

the muffler on my car is basically a resonator with a 2.25inch inlet and a 4.5 inch outlet.

It sounds great, but is rather noisy and does drone terribly on the highway.

Here's a video of it:

And here's one with the silencer in that chokes it down to a tiny exit:

It drones because of the tip.

If it had a regular tip it would be GREATLY reduced.

Agree with the droning from the tip, I've got a cheap aftermarket 140C200 Megaflow muffler on the rear (only $100 locally)and it originally was fitted with a 3 inch (63mm to be exact)tail pipe. It sounded awesome, but going up the freeway you needed earplugs from the constant drone. Now I've got a 2.5 inch and the droning was reduced by at least 50%. Still sounds good, not quite as deep as before but much better than stock (which to me didn't have any real exhaust note at all).

puting a resonator in place of a muffler is the same as fitting a cannon. noisey!

if you what a bit more noise and note, then fit a more free flowing muffler.

if you still have the regular cat fitted, the exhasut will not be harsely noisey.
