Power windows slow ?

My NA6 Power windows are slow to raise and lower , is this a normal thing or are they crook ?

Yes and yes.

If you search the forum you'll find a lot of suggestions on how to fix the windows. It boils down to cleaning oxide off the electrical terminals in the switches, and cleaning/lubricating the window runners.

Do you know how many times i have smashed my arm thinking the window has gone down all the way.

In line with advice I lifted the floor centre console and cleaned out the centre switches with contact cleaner whilst doing this I found yet anofher piiece of a long defunct bloody alarm system which was wired into the power window switches loom (4 wires) I removed it and returned the wires to thier origional positions voila my power windows work ok, they're not fast but perfectly acceptable-horay !

I have also been advise that a good lube for the winow runners is Armoural , wind them right down and spray down into the track edges I haven't done this yet but will try the old pinch the nozzle with a tube of the WD 40 trick for more directional spraying. :lol:

Aarmorall, just like 95% of plastic/rubber cleaners (ie tyre shine) is made up mostly of silicone, thats why its a good lubricant. Its basically silicone spray.

Another thing that helps is to dry-lube the runners and the front seal right down into the door.

If you pull your door trim off and reach down to the bottom of the runners, you should be able to scoop out a whole crapload of old dry lube with your hand that has been pushed down into the runners over the years.

Redistribute this up and down the runners again, and perhaps some more too. Also put some lube along the rubber seal and you will find they will run much better.

Yep I found that out today after I'd bought some of the s-it , I have a perfectly good can of silicon spray on the shelf I use on things like spark plug boots , I'm not a fan of armorall I use 303 on trim.

Shin-etsu silicone grease by the tube from any Honda spare parts place (or cheaper from eBay in the U.S. if you can wait for the delivery times).

Does not attract dust,dirt other gunk like some other sprays do.

Used by Honda for lubing the S2000 softop rubbers and mechanisms.

I use this on my windows and it helps with smoothing the action - last application was about 18 months ago and windows still sliding nicely and no gunk buildup.

Can also be used (as Honda do) for protecting etc. softop/hardtop rubbers.

Not cheap here is Aus (from memory I think it cost me about $50 for a tube) but I think worth it and I probably have enough with the 1 tube for the lifetime of the car.

Rather than the $50 dry lube, I tried some $10 dry lube (which I use for my mountain bike as it doesn't attract dirt and repels water: http://www.midlandscycles.com/1307-1307 ... -125ml.jpg) on the rubber runners running down the edge of the triangle window. I soaked a Q-tip with the stuff, stuck it in there and ran it up and down the full length a couple of times, and came up a charm. This is also after I degreased and re-lubed the runners and the nylon barrel in the motor with some general purpose kincrome grease. For me cleaning the contacts on the switch didn't change a thing, despite them being black as pitch when I opened it up.

I have noticed with mine they are noticeably slower when it starts raining!!

Honestly - dont waste money on contact cleaner for the switches - they will be burnt black from arcing - you can take them apart, and easily sand it off with 400 grit.. mine had got so hot, they had sunk back into the plastic mounting (so I trimmed the plastic back a bit with a stanley knife)- and a major fault with NA windows can be that the roller at the door jam end cracks and breaks into pieces over the years (althought they will still work) - get the teflon rollers off the ebay guy (see other threads, or use the Ebay search..easy to fit) and you'll be laughin.. mine are as fast as Commodore windows.. cheers Derek
