Clutch is shagged, what do I need and what else to do?

Evening all,

Pretty sure the clutch in my BP powered NA6 is past it's use by date, lots of slippage on high rev gear changes but still somewhat noticeable even on the sedate drive home. I'm assuming it will need replacing. Two question therefore arise; do I at all need a "more hardcore" clutch or is a standard one enough, and while I'm going to all that effort, is it worth doing anything else while it's apart?

Background info it that my car basically only comes out for track days now. Engine is a 1.8 with intake, exhaust and computer which has made anywhere between 78-90kw atw depending on the day and the dyno.

lightened flywheel would be a nice addition, esp since your car is mainly track dríven. Better to do it when the clutch is out to save time changing it later.

Yeah a lighter flywheel would be a nice addition to your new clutch.

I fitted a Fidanza 1.6 alloy flywheel when I changed my clutch over in my 1.8, I also went with an Xtreme HD clutch. Had the combo for a few years now and can't fault it. Some photos and info can be found here.

and either lighten the std flywheel and machine it, or fit a lighter new one.

+1 for Xtreme clutch too, been running one for ages now. It's lasted the longest so far, and has the nicest pedal

I have an Xtreme in a rally car that is nice to use and just cops the biggest flogging ever.
You can slip a 4th gear burnout (FWD) and drop a 3rd gear one and the clutch loves it. 1500km of rally use (and a few dozen 1/4mile runs)and no major wear. Cheap too.

also, is the pilot bearing likely to need replacement?

Should come in the clutch kit.

if not the clutch shop can supply one for ten odd dollars.

Everything said here.

I regret the OEM clutch I put in every time I drive it!! RMS is a bitch to get to at the best of times, so may as well save yourself the bother. The lightweight flywheel is really nice if you can put up with the extra noises, but I imagine that machining the standard flywheel would have the same effect.

i went with an exedy HD sports tuff clutch this time around, i broke a 10,000km old OEM clutch in my last 100% stock NA6 somehow, popped a spring out of the clutch disc.
