Autoexe Intake NB8A fitment

Postby wiztek » Wed Apr 11, 2012 8:53 pm

Having just purchased an autoexe intake, have realised it is not a direct bolt on to my NB8A
The existing coolant bottle is in the way.
Have any other NB8A owners had an autoexe intake? Do i need to relocate the coolant bottle + overflow hose?

Here is the fitment from another forum member...
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=46579

Also, the rubber seal around the edge of the carbon fibre is peeling/cracking - where can i get a replacement for this? Clark Rubber? Whats it called?

Thanks.

That black thing is the charcoal canister... Was the intake from a nb8b?? Looking at your engine bay it should fit straight up

The intake was from an NB8C, but some of the parts were supplied after market as the seller was missing certain pieces.
I'll take some pics and see if you guys have suggestions.

Also, to confirm, the intake connects to the AFM > connects to intake piping > connects to the intake manifold/throttle body inlet (not sure of correct term)?

The throttle inlet is smaller in diameter compared to the AFM - how do i find a hose that can accommodate the difference (the stock intake pipe has this)? The hose supplied is the same diameter throughout so im not sure how im suppose to fit it.

I have removed the coolant overflow and the intake still seems to struggle to fit. Were NB8B/C headlights smaller and less intrusive? The charcoal canister (what does that do?) is also getting in the way - did this item sit further back in the 8C?

Sorry for all the questions. Bit lost/frustrated atm.

See attached pic. I think the main hose is just too big. Assuming it was the correct diameter, would still need to squeeze the AFM b/w all of it. I dont know if the normal hose is much much smaller in length, or if the space on the NB8A is just limited. You can see how its almost touching the charcoal canister as well...in other pictures ive seen of this intake there is plenty of clearance. Was the NB8C located differently?
Ill measure tomorrow. And provide more pics too.

Note also the little metal plate on the side of the radiator top tank that prevents the intake from moving further down. On the other end, the bonnet rubber thing prevents it from moving up. Not sure if its a NB8A fitment issue or if im just doing it allllll wrong. :|

Cameron, I think you have it facing the wrong way. The filter end toward the front, and the tapered end pointing towards the back of the engine bay.

It's 180 degrees out of alignment, look at this example of the intake installed http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/DSC04393.jpg (URL as I'm not the one hosting it).

Wow, it's funny that the picture of my car that seems to appear all over the place is a 2 second phone pic of the engine bay when it was stock.

(btw, I have no issues with people using it, just commenting that it seems to pop up a lot)

Just looked at the for sale thread you linked and you can see that the overflow bottle is now on the passenger side but the charcoal canister is still in its original place.

I don’t get what you mean by 180 degrees out of alignment?
In the pic you linked I can’t see the charcoal canister – seems it might have been relocated?
Does anyone know if the NB8C engine bay is different to the NB8A?

Ignore this comment. Try pivoting the unit 45deg anti clockwise.

Ignore my comment too, not sure what I was thinking or seeing this morning (about the 180 degrees). The linked picture I provided has a shorter right angle bend from the intake to the AFM than in your attached picture (by about 1 inch I'd say). The pic I linked has no charcoal canister however but in the original for sale thread you linked the canister is still installed.

So I'd say you will need to relocate the overflow bottle and shorten or replace the 90 degree bend. For a reference point it looks like the AFM is aligned with the throttle butterfly wire attachment point on the two images, your is about an inch off that.
