My mate has an SL500 merc that lowers itself when its sitting there and raises when you push a button. That would be cool, but having a sports car you can't even drive around a flat car park.........not cool, Id love to see him see sawing on a speed bump at the local shopping centre somewhere.

Ahh but that's then part of the point. Anyone can buy some airbag suspension and create a car that can both dump itself on the ground when needed and still remain 'drivable' but it takes effort and dedication to keep it that low.

There are plenty of people who fit all sorts of modifications to make their car less drivable. This quite obviously wasn't built to go around a track or a mountain road.

Because its not how you race your car but how you stand by it that matters. He lives his life a quarter meter at a time.

Oh man I love seeing people's responses to vids like this   Old people seem to want to cry about everything regardless if it affects them or not
There are more people on this forum who garage their precious mx5's and seldomly give their machine's a hard time yet nobody seems to criticise them. They they are the ones with all the opinions on what others shouldn't do.

At the end of the day, cars are cars. We didn't buy some exotic billion dollar race car and even if we did.. would it even matter what someone else did to theirs? People need to back off and stop worrying about stuff that doesn't have any bearing on their own lifestyle and hobbies. If an old man wants to garage his car and never drive it, Dann wants to strip every ounce out of his car and race it, if this guy wants to slam the absolute hell out of it, so be it.
I admit, it's not everyone's cup of tea and I've left my own personal opinion out of this.

I just find it funny how instead of people going on about how they wouldn't do something because they don't like it, they feel the need to call people names and demean them on a public forum.

I tend to agree with Josh here, not necessarily the age bit, but the rest.

I personally wouldn't do this to an MX5, and it's not exactly my idea of great looking.
BUT, I can certainly appreciate that the owner has done what he set out to do. He set out to make the lowest MX5, I think he's done that (if he goes lower I think it would burrow underground :P)

Look at a couple of other MX5's that are considered to be nicely done and great:

NFS13B - viewtopic.php?f=57&t=41974&hilit=drag
Can't drive that around corners very well, but he didn't design it to do corners. It fulfils the purpose the owner had for it.

Lightyear - viewtopic.php?f=57&t=42153&hilit=drag
can't take that up to the hills or the shops, again, it's not designed for that.

In this case the owner wanted the car to be the lowest.

And now, to keep conversation moving, I'll leave another car that seems to always attract name calling:

The same kind that keeps their car bone stock, refuses to put km's on it and lets it spend more time in the garage than the street. Yet it's funny how people seem to warm up to 'collectors' and appreciate the effort they go to even though they are ignoring the whole point of the car. But really, what IS the whole point of the car? It's a material object and it's up to the end user to use their personal discretion on how they will appreciate said item.

I really do not understand all the hate. To me the only idiots are the ones who get so emotional about it   I guess some people are just too arrogant to understand that others find happiness in different places.

Enjoy growing old, bitter and complaining about how the kids these days just "don't understand".

I like lowered cars a lot (think Celsior with an aftermarket suspension controller, the old Benzes with standard airbag suspension, 65 Mustang fastback on its guts). A low mx5 looks great, but this example is just plain stupid.
Anyway, airbag suspension and mx5s are not a great mix. Airbags are a un-performance modification (handling is made worse with airbags).

Yes, but you have to accept that not everyone buys a MX5 for the performance.

Some people just want somethign topless (like Jessica Alba) and some want a track car.

Some just want to do what others wont.

I personally would rather my car looks cool than drives fast...... because i can enjoy my car more on sydney streets than i can at wakefield (due to lifestyle choices and finances)

Racing isnt really my thing. (although i enjoy watching)
