I recently completed a round trip of Tasmania, and all the roads were pretty good. Murchison highway and Elephant Pass very good indeed. I wrote an article which includes some rather shaky video at unique cars and parts web site.
The url and image I wanted to include do not seem to work on this site - sorry.
Cheers,

Top marks for anti-climaxicity!
I checked out the website briefly but couldn't find it yet. Will look further tonight.

LOL check out their 'collectability' rating.

This site changes any link to mx5cartalk, which I can understand as a webmaster myself due to the number of spammers out there. If you go to Unique Cars and Parts, type "Tasmania" in the search and it will be the first article that comes up. It is also listed in the left column under "New Articles", 2nd down. Wish my co-driver was better at holding the iphone for the video, but hopefully these will give a little indication of just how good some of the roads in Tasmania are.

Huh!? Does the link I posted above now link directly back to mx5cartalk?
This reminds me of a cruel trick that I've seen played on gullible people

It does that if you don't leave the "http://" on the front I think.

edit:
Sorry, just wanted to test it.
Links seem to be fine by me. The top one was posted as just www at the start, the second as http// etc.
Both redirected to the correct webpage (being Google Aust)

Re: Tasmania
Thanks for the great write-up Liam, it was a good read. I've been thinking of driving TAS soon, maybe when summer hits.

Re: Tasmania
It' well worth doing,
Tasmania (& a Launceston hire car co - look up Apple Isle hire cars) was the start of the love affair with the 5.
Now 3 years later, deciding when next to make the run there again (after having just completed a run in February)
Recommend to anyone! Plus no "nanny" speed limits like in NSW , 100km/hr speed limit is much better than the 60 it would be round here...less trouble to get into

Re: Tasmania
Good write up. Lots to see and yes roads are a great attraction with an ability to enjoy without any need to break speed limits. Everyone mentions Mona and its a great money earner but some of us would do it once only . The place is compact and no need to spend excessive amounts of time behind the wheel. If small towns and museums and excellent scenery is ones thing then go but people looking for action maybe not. There are always car clubs and campers / grey nomads doing the circuits.

Re: Tasmania
We were very lucky - no grey nomads to deal with (until we got back into VIC & NSW that is)
We spent plenty of time behind the wheel & took breaks at the typical scenery spots, always a nice way to have a break too
We had plenty to do for a week with no duplication

Re: Tasmania
We were there for 6 weeks in December 2010 / January 2011, and the place was deserted! I had a map of all of the targa stages on my phone, and we did all of them at least once, without ever being held up by another car
